Recognized as one of America’s most historic neighborhoods, Germantown dates back centuries all the way to 1683. Even though it’s one of the oldest settlements in the city, Germantown has a relaxed and friendly vibe about it.
And speaking of its historic vanity – the Cliveden Estate’s backyard was the site of the 1777 Battle of Germantown. Along its main thoroughfare, a 2.5-acre rose garden flourishes with brightly-colored blooms at the Wyck House. Locals gather at the Johnson House – which was a stop on the Underground Railroad – to join in the Juneteenth Festival. The Revolutionary Germantown Festival is held every October and features reenactments of the Battle of Germantown.
Outside of their affordable apartments, locals can be found exploring Fernhill Park or dining at delicious eateries. Locals look forward to easy commutes to work by way of two SEPTA rail lines.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at English Manor Apartments
I’ve lived in this apartment since September 2022 and there are some pros and cons about this building. I’ll start with the pros. It’s a really nice neighborhood, about a 15 minute walk from the Wissahickon trails, and the neighbors in the area are relatively nice. Now as for the cons about the building. Let’s just start off with the fact that there’s a new building manager about every other month. Most of them don’t really care about the building or care to do anything if you have an issue. There’s no security in, out or around the building so If security is a big thing for you this probably isn’t a place for you. Since living here, I’ve probably had about a dozen packages stolen! They won’t really do anything about it, usually when a tenant does something like that they’ll just send out a message to everyone threatening that when they find out who it is there will be “consequences”. I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t put any cameras anywhere on the property. The intercom doesn’t work so if you do decide that you want to live on a floor higher up, you will have to come all the way downstairs to let your guest in. It has been broken since I’ve been here. The resident also smoke in the common areas like the laundry room and the lobby there’s always cigarette butts near the elevator. The rent goes up every year or at least it’s been going up every year since I’ve been here but the quality of living in the building isn’t going up. If you’re going to charge people the amount you’re charging them, you can at least provide security and a safe space for your residents. The building is beautiful old and historical I really wish they did more.
I moved in on 6/1/22 and have had a great experience so far, it's very clean, very quiet, the apartment is large and the wood floors are fabulous. I do miss a dishwasher, but for the price, this is definitely the place for me. Recommend!
