Situated in Rockingham County, Derry or “Spacetown” is home to history and modern comforts. Derry is the birthplace of astronaut and the first American to travel into space, Alan B.     Derry is an active community and the Derry Parks and Recreation plays a role in giving residents plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. In both summer and winter there are numerous ways to get your exercise at one of the many town parks and playgrounds. There are tennis courts, ball fields, hiking and biking trails, and even a sledding hill. The youngsters have a skate park of their own and even the furry friends have their own dog park.

    There are two main bodies of water in the town, Beaver Lake and Hood’s Pond. Both offer residents a way to cool off on those hot August days. The Parks and Recreation department runs a concession stand at Gallien’s Town Beach on Beaver Lake and also offers paddle boats and kayaks for rent by the hour. The town offers swimming lessons for kids at Hood’s Pond and both places are great for kayaking, fishing and swimming. Residents can buy beach passes at the town hall.

    Most restaurants in Derry are located along Rockingham Road (Route 28). Here, you'll find popular chains like Applebee's and T-Bones as well as regional favorites like the 99.
