Starting with the Watchung Reservation on the north end to Ash Brook Reservation on the southeast side, Scotch Plains is filled with parks and green space. The town is wedged between Plainfield and Westfield roughly 14 miles southwest of Newark. In addition to parks, Scotch Plains contains two golf courses, the Shackamaxon Country Club and Ash Brook Golf Course. Bowcraft, an amusement park offering roller coasters, thrill rides, and arcade games, is also located in Scotch Plains.
Scotch Plains is a historic location first claimed by Dutch explorers in 1609. The English conquered the area in 1664, and settlers from Scotland arrived around 1684. The Frazee House, built around 1720, played a crucial role in the American Revolution. It was in this house that Elizabeth Frazee ("Aunt Betty"), a prolific baker, turned away a British soldier who wanted her fresh-baked loaf of bread.

Property Ratings at Country Club Village
Positives: rent compared to the area, large units Negatives: 1. Nasty leasing office staff who are VERY unprofessional. During the process, they were shouting on the phone, at each other, etc. Overall very rude. DEMAND to see the actual unit youll be renting- they told us the unit certain things only to walk in and find it entirely different. The man in the main office was very demeaning when we requested to switch to what was promised, saying we either had to break the lease (and pay 6 months worth of rent) or stay in the unit. 2. No proper upkeep in the winter. If there is going to be any snow, ice, etc the complex does NOTHING ahead of time. I am not talking about waiting to shovel until roads are clear during major snowstorms to plow/shovel, I am talking about simply salting on days that we have a small dusting at the day before that will clearly turn into an ice slick by 5am. I have fallen on the walkway at least half a dozen times a year from a slick ice sheet due to no salting on the walkway/around cars. We often leave for work while sliding on the road leading out to the main traffic light. 3. SO CREAKY! If you're a light sleeper, DO NOT take a 1 floor unit. We can hear every single step, door opening, etc. And the only person is a quiet, sweet single woman upstairs- imagine what you'd hear if it was a family! 4. Landlord specials- moved in with a beer can shoved into a light fixture. The patching in the walls sucks so we couldn't even drill a curtain rod in. The weather proofing also sucks. SUPER drafty windows and slider, literally inches of sunlight coming through the front doors before I added weather strips. Closet doors never opened/closed right, etc. We also had flooding happen several times due to another tenant/piping and they were very unhelpful/nasty. Didn't offer anything for the items that were damaged from the flood and some weren't replaceable (work things). They also would not wet vac the carpet, there is mold now because of it. 5. Laundry can suck. There is ONE location that you can fill the card with and at least once every few months it's not working. It also is cash only. The number provided to call the company also did not work at one point. In the laundry room near me, there are 3 washers and 2 dryers- 1 dryer has been out of order for over a year. Smelly washers 6. Changed the rent payment system w/a 65 service fee JUST TO PAY RENT
THE worst customer service I’ve dealt with at a rental complex. We’ve been complaining about the AC being broken for over 4 years. Same BS excuse and same procedure everytime. I’ve provided pictures and proof and still no solution. They lie and give you false hope so If I could put 0 stars I would. DO NOT COME HERE. There are plenty of other places to live. It’s 80 effing degrees inside the apartment and they tell you that’s how it is here
I recently visited Country Club Village, and my experience was far from pleasant. Upon entering the office, I immediately noticed the unprofessional atmosphere – three staff members were simultaneously yelling on the phone with customers. The energy was extremely negative and unsettling. To make matters worse, the apartments advertised on their website were not even available. However, even if they were, the toxic environment alone would deter me from ever renting here. I would never consider living in Country Club Village under these conditions.
First their advertised price is different from real one and then I scheduled appointment in NJ, rented car to go from NY for showing and 1 hour prior showing they canceled my appointment, I had to pay for rental car for nothing!!!
After selling our house we looked into moving here but it was completely full. We rented a condo in Rahway and when it was sold we were finally able to move here. We really like it. James and his crew are not only good at their jobs but friendly too. When I asked about getting a handicap parking space designated outside our unit they had it done in a day! The only thing I wish we had is a washer/dryer in our unit. We live about 2 doors away from the laundry so it’s not too bad. We’ve been here for 3 years and plan to stay at least one more. Neighbors are nice. The management seems to be trying to update the complex with new windows and landscaping as well as night lighting. I recommend this complex.
Property Manager at Country Club Village, Responded To This Review
Thank you for the 5 star review. We appreciate the great feedback!
The super is always there for me since I moved in. I am a single mom and he's been someone I can count on if anything ever goes wrong. He's always so careful, he's clean and he is prompt. Out of all that work for the community James is always the most neat and he's very fast with his work. Very efficient. It also helps he's a father of two so my daughter has grown to trust him. If her toy breaks she thinks James will come to fix it too. He once super glued a wooden toy back together for her when he was fixing my walls. I feel very lucky to have him around. I've seen the work others do and it's not the same.
