Old Towne Petersburg displays incredible historical architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries in the heart of Petersburg. This significant locale is an inviting culinary and shopping destination, with almost all of its restaurants and shops in historic structures. There’s several locally owned restaurants that offer Italian, Greek, Latin American, Southern cuisine and more. Old Towne also boasts approximately a dozen antique shops, primarily on West Old and North Sycamore Streets, but also on North Market, Bollingbrook, and West Bank Streets.
Old Towne’s location along the Appomattox River puts residents close to waterfront dining options and walking trails. You’ll find newly renovated apartments in long-standing buildings all with a unique charm, and with U.S. Highway 301 and Interstate 95 so close, you can be in any of the surrounding communities in no time.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Butterworth Flats
Comfortable spot for 1st time renters as all basic utilities (electric/trash/sewer cable) are included in the base rent. It allowed us to assist our son when needed. Recommend without reservations!
I’ve been here for about 3 years now in two different apartments. It’s a relatively quiet place to live and everyone mostly keeps to themselves. Landlords are quick to respond to emails and quick to fix any maintenance issues or requests. Only complaint is the parking lot isn’t the best.
I love it here. Quiet tenants that respect quiet hours, secured building with a lit parking lot that has working cameras. The landlords are very friendly and responsive. Walking distance from public transport, restaurants and antique shops, while also close to 95 without the crazy overcrowding traffic you see in Chesterfield and Richmond. The library (which is amazing) is just a block away and there is a farmers market every Saturday just a few blocks down hill. The parking lot is small, but there is a ton of street parking. Soon there will even be a rooftop bar opening just around the corner in The Petersburg Hotel. Great location, good walkable entertainment options, amazing landlords.
I’ve been at Butterworth flats for 6+ months and I have loved every bit of my stay. The all inclusive apartments are modern and clean, hallways and entryways are always spotless. My neighbors and I keep to ourselves but for the most part everyone is friendly. Management goes above and beyond to ensure all tenants are satisfied and respected. 10/10 would recommend. I definitely plan on staying here for the next few years.
The Lofts are very Safe and Clean. The neighbors are friendly. Noelle makes the building feel like home
No problems at all since I’ve moved here , very quite and secured bldg
You can definitely rest easy here. There’s cameras up and plenty of lighting in the parking lot. The units are spacious and have their own unique design. The hardwood floors are amazing. Tall ceilings with the open concept makes it look even bigger. I absolutely love my unit.
Clean property, quiet living spaces, and excellent location! Can walk to the library, bank, post office, shops, the Hilton hotel next door, and enjoy the historic town!
Clean quiet living with secure key fob entry beautiful hardwood floors high ceilings large W/D great floor plans maintenance requests handled in timely manner owner managed property who are very friendly and welcoming who really care about tenants here lots of eateries and entertainment within walking distance
Overall, I highly recommend Butterworth Flats. The location is unbeatable, with access to the city's vibrant art district and all its rich history. The building itself is a unique blend of modern and industrial architecture, with vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, and beautiful exposed brick. Plus, the staff is incredibly helpful and responsive, making living here a breeze. Additionally, the online portal makes communication and addressing concerns a seamless process. It truly is a gem of a place to call home.
Butterworth Flats is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the city and surrounded by the rich history of the art district of Petersburg. The building's contemporary modern industrial architecture is a refreshing change from traditional cookie-cutter living. With features such as vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, exposed brick, concrete floors, and beautiful white walls with charcoal grey trim, this building exudes character and charm. In addition, the staff makes living here effortless by providing a convenient portal for residents to communicate any concerns. Overall, I have been living here for a few years and couldn't be happier with my experience.
