South Dartmouth comprises the less developed and more coastal area of the city of Dartmouth. There’s a number of distinct neighborhoods that hold an incredible array of rentals that stretch into Clarks Cove and Buzzards Bay, but there’s also an even mix of more undeveloped areas that run through pristine nature preserves. The peninsula is a particular hotspot in the area and you’ll find most of the waterfront seafood restaurants, retail options, and marinas in this scenic section of South Dartmouth. This is an incredible locale for students and faculty at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth who are looking for a more picturesque part of town with a more engaging atmosphere than North Dartmouth. Interstate 195 lies just a few miles north, making it easy to commute around the rest of Massachusetts and New England.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Amelia
This is the worst place I have ever lived in 60 years. Beginning as early as 3:30 a.m. until around 7:00, the post office unloads and loads trucks. Back-up alarms and containers slamming to the ground (think of the sound steel makes as it hits concrete) are frequently heard. The postmaster and management refuse to do anything about it. Walgreens (a tenant of the Claremont – the owner of Amelia) accepts deliveries as early as 5:30 a.m. A tractor trailer circles the lot, backing up frequently (with the backup alarm sounding). Trash and recycling collection from large dumpsters occurs as early as 5:00 a.m. by two separate vendors. It sometimes occurs every 15 minutes, and the dumpsters are slammed onto the truck and then back to the ground. These are Claremont’s vendors or their tenant’s vendors, yet they will not require the vendors adjust their service hours. The walls between units are extremely thin and offer no noise abatement. I could easily hear conversations in the adjacent apartment. Claremont allows smoking on balconies. Smoke wafts into open windows so your apartment will smell like cigarette smoke. Yyou could not keep windows open if you did not want to smell cigarettes. The roof above the apartment leaked for over a year and was never properly fixed. It was still leaking as of the day I moved out. The building has settled and floors are not level. Windows are poor quality, rattle when it’s windy, and offer no noise abatement from outside noise. They are difficult to open and close. The insulation is poor, so one of the bedrooms was always cold in the winter and had a serious draft from the window. The appliances are low quality, especially the dishwasher and washer / dryer. The washer is extremely noisy. All of this comes at a price which is at the top range for this rental market. It is not at all worth the poor quality of life you will experience living here. The only bright spot is the property manager, who works hard to improve the experience, but does not seem to be supported in this effort by Claremont.
