The compact rural town of Sussex occupies just over half a square miles of land near the New Jersey-Connecticut border. The lack of big-city buzz and presence of Tudor-style apartment buildings give Sussex an old-world feel. With just over 2,000 people in such a small locale, Sussex is big on community. It’s also imminently walkable and contains a number of parks, many of which are dog friendly.
The town itself is surrounded by farmland and New Jersey countryside, but bigger cities lie to the north in Connecticut and in eastern New Jersey near New York City. Despite its location, you can be in Newark in just over an hour via car.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Alpine Village
1. Small hot water heaters: Not something you would think about, but since you pay for your hot water - you basically get little hot water. Be ready for short showers if you move here. 2. Electric bills: considering it’s cold here, and we pay for all electric here...Our electric bill is averaging around $250 a month in the winter months, and we are cold. We set the heat low around 62 degrees and use a lot of blankets and run the dishwasher about once or twice a week and take 5 minute showers every other day in a one bedroom apartment. We use the stove about once a week. We use 5watt light bulbs to give you a good example of what to expect. I don’t feel like I am using that much electric considering other places I have lived have always come in around $15 to $30 a month for electric. I think it is the heaters they have here and the electric panel seems to need updating. 3. The laundry: while it is cheap. They seem unmaintained. Like you will find a screw in the washer and the washer will look like it is going to bounce away. There are only 6 washers for the entire community and they are average size. 4. I don’t feel the most friendly sense from the leasing office. It is more of a- I am here once a week for a few hours and I don’t handle that, as well as a general rude response. 5. Icy sidewalks all winter that you need to use to your car.
