The small city of Harker Heights (commonly known as simply “Heights” by locals) sits on the east side of Killeen, and just outside the boundaries of the sprawling Fort Cavazos. Due to its proximity to the world’s largest military installation, Harker Heights serves as home to thousands of Army personnel seeking off-base housing, as well as many civilian military employees and folks working in support services.

Apart from the few shopping centers and restaurants along Interstate 14, the city’s landscape is almost entirely filled by residential neighborhoods. The rental market is huge, and includes a wide range of options for every budget, from unpretentious efficiency apartments to more upscale suburban homes. The surrounding parks and lakes offer great opportunities to spend quality time outdoors, and the urban amenities of Austin are only about sixty miles down the road.
