Apartments for Rent Near University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
The institution now known as the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor traces its roots back to 1845, when it was established by the Republic of Texas as a women’s college counterpart to Baylor University. Today, UMHB is a key contributor to the central Texas region’s scholarly community—a small, private institution specializing in healthcare-related fields, including a doctoral program for nursing. Students participate in a number of unique annual traditions, including the Easter Pageant, the Midnight March candlelight procession, and the Dubbing Ceremony, in which students are “knighted” by school administrators. UMHB’s main campus sits in the small city of Belton, about an hour north of Austin and just outside of Fort Hood. The neighborhoods around the south side of campus offer convenient walking access to both the university and Downtown Belton. Local eateries like Schoepf’s Old-Time Barbecue and Los Compadres are extremely popular with the college crowd, just a few blocks from campus. Being so close to Austin, it’s easy to hop down and take in the famous sights, sounds, and tastes of the state capital.
