411 Middle Street (or 411) is a residential community with intentions around personal development, mutual support, health, and planet-friendly living in a beautiful and well-maintained setting. Our 1860’s Victorian Mansion was converted to apartments in the early 1900’s and has been owned and operated by Bob Vaccaro and Dan Rawling since 1999. During this time Bob and Dan added living spaces in the carriage house and attic, added an extraordinary porch, sundeck, and several garden seating areas, restored the exterior, added parking; and Dan created amazing gardens for all our housemates to enjoy. We are an easy 12-minute/.6-mile walk to Portsmouth’s iconic Market Square, and we are close to at least 3 bus stops. When our eight apartments are fully occupied, we have 17 to 20 housemates, depending on the number of apartments that we rent out by the room and the number of couples living at 411. All our housemates value our intentions noted above. They are mostly single professionals, varying in age from 20s to 70s, about half men and half women. Some are well-off financially and some live paycheck to paycheck. Several housemates work remotely or downtown and are car-free. The average stay is 2 years, but a few housemates have lived at 411 much longer. We thrive on this diversity. The residents of Apt 3 (the Carriage House apartment) share their extraordinary great room and raw vegan food preparation equipment with all 411 housemates. The room is available for move in asap for $1,200 a month, and utilities average $150/month. There is free parking on both sides of Middle Street. Off-street parking is available for an additional $75. Check out our website, especially our photo gallery and the Tools and Agreements documents. If you are still interested, email Bob the answers to the one-page of questions on the application page - the last page of our website. Then call Bob for a phone interview and to schedule a showing. Note that you will have an opportunity to meet the other housemates to help you and them determine if you would be a good fit. Please contact us to learn more!

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
