Great Location, Horrible Landlord

You can't get any better location-wise. Close to the trolley, UPenn, and everything West Philly has to offer - it can't be beat. The buildings themselves (both sides - 405 and 407 - of the twins are owned by the same person) are is passable condition, not greatly maintained. If any work needs to be done, it is done cheaply with as little work necessary to keep to code. The prices for rent are on the upper end of normal for the area but that is expected with the location. Checks can be easily dropped off in an interior mailbox for the landlord to pick up, something I greatly appreciated. Coin-operated basement laundry is only offered in one half (405) as the other basement has asbestos. It isn't incredibly convenient to only have one ancient washer and dryer for 16 units to share. There were multiple instances of theft concurring in the building; packages were stolen from the front vestibule where the mailboxes were kept, expensive bicycles were stolen from the basement. These portions of the buildings can only be accessed by people with keys. No security system is on the property despite these issues. Unfortunately the landlord is not a pleasant person to deal with. If you are female, expect him to uncomfortably stare and bring up inappropriate topics into conversation. Definitely the type of man to push boundaries with women. He would routinely give less than 24 hours notice for access to apartments which violates agreements made in leases. There were times when he would enter my apartment with no notice for necessary maintenance. While the location is fantastic and the rent isn't too bad, ultimately I would not recommend these apartments because of the stingy landlord and lack of security.
