Located directly across the Arthur Kill from Staten Island, Carteret was once part of the Woodbridge Township. It became the borough of Roosevelt in 1906 and was renamed Carteret in 1922. This popular community is bordered by the Rahway River to the north, Arthur Kill to the east, and the Ernest L. Oros Wildlife Preserve to the west. Due to its central location, the borough bills itself as the "Center of it All."
Residents enjoy a fantastic location and beautiful parks. Carteret Waterfront Park has a fishing pier and access to two hiking trails: Danielle's Garden Trail and the Waterfront Fitness Trail. Shopping in Carteret is plentiful -- the brick-paved sidewalks and outdoor cafes along Washington Avenue provide historic charm and locally-owned businesses, while the shops and restaurants along Roosevelt Avenue have a more modern feel. With just 22 miles to Manhattan, 10 miles to Newark, and 70 miles to Philadelphia, residents can easily commute to nearby cities.

Property Ratings at 29 Washington Ave
Living at 29 Washington has been nothing short of amazing! The apartments are absolutely beautiful with modern finishes, spacious layouts, and thoughtfully designed details. What really sets 29 Washington apart is the professional leasing and management team. From day one, the leasing process was smooth, transparent, and stress-free. The staff is not only knowledgeable and responsive but also genuinely cares about the residents. Maintenance requests are handled quickly, and communication is always clear and professional.
Amazing! I’ve had a fantastic experience living in this apartment! From the start, the management team has been incredibly responsive, professional, and friendly. Any maintenance issues (which have been rare) were resolved quickly and efficiently.
I moved in back in March and it’s been a really good experience so far. The building’s clean and quiet, and moving in was super easy. I use the gym pretty often and it’s got everything I need. The roof lounge is also a nice spot to hang out. Anytime I’ve had a question, the staff got back to me quickly. No major issues at all. I’m glad I ended up here. Feels like a solid place to call home.
I would give negative stars if it were an option. LITERALLY THE WORST APARTMENT I HAVE EVER LIVED IN. PLEASEEEEEE SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE. NOT WORTH CONSIDERING AT ALL. The walls are made of paper. Without evening trying you can clearly hear the conversations of all of your neighbors whether they are above you or next door to you. You can fill the motion of neighbors walking over your head. Management is the ABSOLUTE worst. I would not recommend renting at this building or with this management company. I signed my lease in May 2024 for a move-in date of August 2024. The previous tenant left in July. Despite having enough time to prepare the apartment, I found broken blinds in the living room, a non-functional toilet, a missing light in the chandelier, and no light bulb in the refrigerator. When I initially contacted management, they told me to wait TWO DAYS for the toilet to be fixed. I also didn't have access to the garage for over a week because they did not provide me with a clicker upon move-in. This has been the worst leasing experience I've had. Again, management is absolutely terrible. I accidentally left my fob inside my apartment and couldn't access the building. I called management 15 times but didn't get a response. The leasing agent finally got back to me after 3 hours and 10 attempts. Fortunately, someone exiting the building let me in after I had waited for over 20 minutes. However, the property manager still hasn't returned any of my calls to check in on why I may have been contacting him so much in one setting.

We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations. We understand how frustrating move-in issues and communication delays can be, and we want every resident to feel respected, safe, and at home here. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you faced. Since February 2025, we’ve taken resident feedback seriously and made meaningful improvements: Faster Maintenance: We’ve improved our ticketing process and added staff to ensure urgent concerns are resolved quickly and thoroughly. Better Move-In Prep: Apartments now undergo a complete quality check before move-in to confirm all fixtures, lighting, and garage access tools are in place. Stronger Communication: In addition to a 24/7 support line, the entrance door now lists direct contact numbers for the maintenance manager, property manager, and regional manager, so residents can quickly reach someone during a lockout or emergency. Noise Expectations: As in any apartment community, some level of noise is normal. That said, we encourage all residents to be thoughtful of their neighbors by using area rugs, avoiding shoes indoors, and following quiet hours. We take every concern seriously and remain committed to providing a welcoming, well-managed community. We invite prospective residents to visit, meet our team, and experience the improvements firsthand. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us serve our residents better every day. — Property Management Team
The management office did not reveal there is construction going on which end until 2025 when I first moved in. It starts every single weekday sometimes even Saturday 7am in the morning. Whenever there is issue, the 29 washington ave office is so difficult to reach. And there is no visitor parking at all which the garage attached to the property ask for $45 per day. The trash room always has cockroach that sneaks into my studio as mine is right next to it. Horrible place for living.

We’re sorry to hear that your experience at the property did not meet your expectations. We understand how frustrating disruptions and communication challenges can be, and we appreciate your feedback. Here are some important updates and clarification for future residents: Construction: While there was nearby construction at the time of your move-in, that work has now been completed. Residents can now enjoy a quieter environment during standard hours. Resident Support: All residents have access to a 24/7 phone line for urgent concerns. We also want to reassure residents that all voicemails are returned as promptly as possible. Parking: The property is connected to a county-operated garage that offers convenient hourly parking. While we do not set garage pricing, this provides flexible access for residents and their guests. Cleanliness: We have strengthened pest control efforts and improved cleaning procedures in and around trash collection areas to maintain a clean and healthy space, especially near residential units. We take all feedback seriously and are committed to maintaining a supportive, well-managed living environment. We welcome prospective residents to visit the building and speak with our team to learn more about our community. Thank you again for your comments. They help us continue to improve. — Property Management Team
No management. No real maintenance. The manager could care less about the tenants. I cant wait until my lease is up. This place is beautiful but not worth the headache with it’s unprofessional management. She doesn’t respond to messages and when she does its a week later. People blast their music all night, smells like weed, cigarettes all in the garage, i could go on and on. Do NOT waste your time.

29 Washington Ave is a Brand New Apartment Building in Carteret! The area seems to be up and coming with a Brand New Performing Arts Center Adjacent to this apartment building. The secure garage is attached to the building for easy access and convenient parking! There is a NJ TRANSIT BUS right out front on Washington Ave The apartments themselves have beautiful finishes with open airy floorplans and my favorite high ceilings! The kitchens are light and bright with beautiful white cabinets, granite counter tops, and stainless-steel appliances. The floors are gorgeous and match seamlessly through the apartment, no carpets here! I LOVE that all the apartments have washers and dryers inside the units! Trash is easy, there is a chute on every floor. There are 2 elevators in the building to make moving so much easier! The entire building is locked with key fob access and security cameras throughout for added peace of mind. Be sure to see Casey and Vanessa in the leasing office they are OPEN for business!!
This is a new property and they are very unorganized. The construction was done poorly and the customer service is terrible!
