Ariel West
The 31-story Ariel West and its 37-floor cousin, Ariel East — both towers on either side of Broadway at West 99th Street — changed the face of the neighborhood when they went up in 2007. The buildings tower over the relatively low-rise area and were some of the first modern glass skyscrapers built in that part of the Upper West Side. “It’s kind of a village unto itself,” says Seth Levin, an agent with the LevinKong Team at Keller Williams NYC, who has listed units in the building. “It’s one of the true luxury, fully amenitized buildings in that neighborhood.” Designed by architecture firm Cook + Fox, Ariel West originally featured a glass-and-terracotta facade. However, the terracotta tiles were replaced with more durable aluminum around 2020. Its one-story entrance — closer to the scale of nearby townhouses — is along West 99th Street, away from the hustle and bustle of Broadway and leads to the building’s courtyard and other outdoor amenities. Its proximity to parks and private schools makes Ariel West “the epitome of a family building.

New York City’s Upper West Side is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan. While landmarks like the Metropolitan Opera, the Lincoln Center, and the American Museum of Natural History lend a distinctly highbrow air to the landscape, the overall community environment favors down-to-earth personalities and accessible neighborhood amenities.
So what’s it like to live in the Upper West Side, and what exactly is this neighborhood known for? The local dining scene is superb, featuring a vast landscape of restaurants representing every style and flavor imaginable, most of which are affordable enough to become regular stops. Grocers and retail stores are close at hand, and everywhere in the Upper West Side is within walking distance of Central Park— those living near the eastern edge of the neighborhood can enjoy gorgeous views of the sun rising over the park every morning.
