About This Property
Mid-century modern gem designed by Frank Lloyd Wright student in 1961. Located in highly desirable Ann Arbor Hills, in the Burns Park, Tappan, and Huron school districts. The University of Michigan is an easy bike ride or walk, and Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are minutes away. The home features all the familiar Wright-style hallmarks, such as Cherokee red heated concrete floors, clerestory windows, glass-on-glass corners, many built in cabinets and bookshelves, huge fireplace, cut-out patterns in brick wall of kitchen, recessed ceiling lighting, skylights, mahogany paneling, teak flooring, two-car carport, and more. Thoughtful design links indoor and outdoor spaces, and the home is positioned to create a private experience with the illusion of being in remote forest, with no neighbors visible from inside the home. Stamped red concrete patios to the side and the back of the house provide delightful spaces for outdoor entertaining. Side patio is bordered by a series of artful fences with cutouts that mirror those in the brick walls of the kitchen. Back patio provides lovely views of the beautifully landscaped yard with flowering pink dogwoods, crabapples, enormous rhododendron, flower garden, birch, red cedar, Japanese maples, yew, oaks, walnuts, blue spruce and white pines. Built-in watering system keeps lawn and garden looking fresh during the summer. The living room has 12-foot ceilings, multiple tall windows, large fireplace, built-in speakers and a hidden turntable, and is open to the dining room. There are two offices, a large study in the very center of the house with two desks and a skylight, the other in the first hallway bedroom with a fold-out couch for overnight visitors. There are 3 bedrooms (not counting the hallway office, which we will use to store our things and leave closed), including a master with en suite bath that is at the opposite end of the house from the other bedrooms. The kitchen has traditional red formica counters and features a large pantry, copper table, Sub-Zero fridge, Thermador gas range, Asko dishwasher, and KitchenAid double convection oven. There is a large finished basement with deep window wells that provide lots of light. The basement has a laundry room, ping pong table, high-top table with chairs, and comfortable large-screen TV viewing area. The Ann Arbor Hills neighborhood is one of the safest, most beautiful and desirable in Ann Arbor, within the Burns Park, Tappan and Huron school districts, and a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk to campus. The area has a remarkably diverse set of houses, and was a showcase for mid-century modern homes, as well as every other design imaginable. Many residents stroll the streets in the morning and the evening. Several parks are nearby, including the beautiful Nichols Arboretum, which is a favorite place for walks, picnics, and Shakespeare in the Arb during the summer. Grocery shopping is a breeze, with Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Kroger, Arbor Farms, Plum Market, and Argus Farm Stop within easy reach. We seek renters with an appreciation for architecture and a willingness to be thoughtful stewards of a very special and unique home. It will repay your care and respect with a continually shifting set of beautiful views and evolving lighting that still captivate us daily. If you ever wished you could live in a Frank Lloyd Wright home, this is the place for you!
