Property Ratings at 2300 Auburn Ave
This building is falling apart. I had to stuff my window sills with newspapers to stop the bad drafts. There is also no ventilation whatsoever. I was a very good tenant, even keeping Joanne, the landlord, updated about things going on around the building that she wanted to know about. She refused to return my deposit, claiming I submitted my notification to terminate late. It wasn't late. I just failed to turn it in in a way that was documented, so she knew she could claim it was late. Looking at the other comments, this isn't the first time she wrongfully refused to return a security deposit. Do not live under these conditions.
There is ALWAYS something wrong or going on. The landlord will cut off water or heat without warning. They will take weeks if not months to fix and address problems. Or if they do “fix” problems it is a temporary fix that creates more problems or just leads back to the original problem. There’s been a broken window with a piece of cardboard over it in the stairwell for months. There’s leaks all throughout the building. The walkways are never shoveled or cleared of snow. The trash cans will be upside down and inaccessible regularly. All of the appliances are old and outdated. Just do yourself a favor and live somewhere else.
-Serious bedbug problems in this building. -Sketchy landlord who avoids giving security deposits back. A few months after moving in, I found bd bed bugs and the landlord, Joanne, blamed me for it. Unfortunately I stayed at the apartment and several months later, I found bed bugs again in my apartment. This was the first place I’ve lived that had bed bugs. It became clear why I would often see other tenant’s furniture and possessions in the trash.. most likely due to bed bug infestations. Again, Joanne claimed this has never happened before and blamed me. This is when I finally decided to move. I left the apartment clean, nothing damaged and she has avoided my requests for the security deposit back. As a full time student and worker, I don’t have the time to try and chase this person down. Joanne likely assumes this will happen with most tenants given that the apartment is located near Clifton. Do not rent here. An expensive nightmare. The building needs to be shut down and Joanne must not be in charge of a building that inhabits living beings.
I read the past review and have no idea where that person is staying! They must have a grudge against management because the building manager has been super nice to me and are always johnny-on-the-spot whenever I need anything. There are two maintenance men that live in the building and the property manager has always been attentive to all my needs. The rent is cheap and includes the Heat. The rooms are huge and have nice hardwood floors. I can walk to my job at the University of Cincinnati in less than 5 minutes. It's only a block and a half away from Kroger's. It is a quiet building and everyone in here is very respectful. They are always making upgrades to the building and they really make me feel like they care about me.
