Established in 1863, Crown Hill Cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cemetery, the nation's third largest, covers 555 acres and contains more than 150 species of plants and trees. It is the final resting place of President Benjamin Harrison, three Vice Presidents, Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley, several famous artists and sculptors, and many others.
With its gothic archways and gorgeous sculptures, it's no wonder the neighborhood surrounding the cemetery shares its name. Crown Hill (originally named "the Crown" because of its location overlooking Indianapolis) is a picture-perfect neighborhood with historic architecture, mature trees, and great views of the city skyline.
While the cemetery covers much of the northwest corner of the neighborhood, Crown Hill features several tree-lined, residential streets. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is located in the southeastern corner of the neighborhood.
