Great neighborhood: Bowmanville, west of Andersonville and north of Lincoln Square. Quiet, low density with generous street parking for residents and guests (usually right in front of the building), friendly neighbors, community gardens, near Winnemac Park. Garden plots available in community garden space (see photo) Walkable location: A 10-15 minute walk to both Lincoln Square (south) and Andersonville (east). Bowmanville is the neighborhood bounded by Ravenswood, Foster, Western and Rosehill Cemetery. Transportation: Brown Line stops (Western and Damen) about a 15-minute walk or via Western Avenue bus, Red Line stop (Berwyn) 20 minutes away (or via Foster Avenue bus). About a 15-minute walk to the Metra/Lawrence Ravenswood stop (Union Pacific North Line, 16 minutes from Ogilvie downtown station). Highway access (Edens, Kennedy and Lake Shore Drive all about 15 minutes away). Two minute walk to Winnemac Park and Jorndt Field. Owner lives in second building on the same property. Utilities: Apartment has central air conditioning and heat (tenant covers utility costs: add about $100-150/month, depending on usage). Amenities: Free laundry (two washers and two dryers) in basement, bike parking and storage locker also in basement. Energy efficiency measures have reduced utility costs in the past four years, including new AC in 2019. Move in likely possible in last week of December 2020.

Bowmanville -- a small neighborhood on the north side of Lincoln Square and west of Andersonville -- began in a rather unusual way. It was around 1850, and a local inn keeper named Jesse Bowman decided to sell land in the area. The only problem was, he didn't actually own the land he sold. He then disappeared before the new "land owners" discovered they'd been swindled. Today, this beautiful, residential neighborhood is known for its elegant gardens and green space, minutes north of Downtown Chicago.
Every July, the Bowmanville Community Organization hosts the Bowmanville Garden Walk, which includes a photo contest, presentations by garden masters, and a garden party. While this is a close-knit, residential community, it does have a small but vibrant business district along Damen Avenue, which includes several restaurants, art galleries, and specialty shops.
When looking for rentals in Bowmanville, be aware that the neighborhood is located north of West Foster Avenue.
