A co-op, or cooperative, is an intentional community where every member gets a voice in how the house is run. Our members also share household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and gardening, and adhere to cooperative principles. It is a democratic organization. Frequently Asked Questions: How much is rent? All of the available rooms will be in the main house. Our rooms average $750 for single occupancy and increase by $225/month for double occupancy. Rates include utilities (Wi-Fi, gas, electricity, water, etc.) detergent, soap, maintenance costs, and food. Room rates increase by 1-3% at the beginning of each year. What's the house like? We live in a large old three story house and garage apartment with: 14 bedrooms -- 12 bedrooms in the main house, and 2 bedrooms in the garage apartment 7 full bathrooms Fully stocked kitchen available 24/7 4 community-prepared meals per week Downstairs Common Area Individually controlled A/C units in each room High speed wireless internet available in each room Washing Machine & Clothes Lines Secure bike storage (shared bike) Vegetable and herb gardens Compost A library of books and board games Will I fit in? If you're interested in joining a friendly community of creatives, professionals, and activists--and want to build something that's going to last, you might be the perfect fit. We spend time together, we cook, clean, and celebrate together. Each member of the CO-OP must complete 4 hours of labor towards the house each week in an effort to maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable living environment. Each members labor is distributed among the house members based on each individuals schedule and inclination (i.e. do you like to cook, clean, garden...). Our members are LGBTQA friendly, value creative expression, social change, and urban sustainability. What duties do members of Urth have? Attend bi-weekly house meetings (every other Monday) Perform five house labor hours each week. Be an active member in our community and participate in house activities. Be dedicated towards maintaining a healthy environment of mutual respect and positivity. The house is pretty relaxed, but you must complete your labor each week (that's less time than you would spend living this well by yourself). Our labor system includes kitchen tasks such as cooking, cleaning or shopping; general house tasks such as: yard work, taking out the trash, recycling and compost, cleaning, gardening, household repairs, etc, and we try to match everyone's labor to their individual skills and interests. What is your pet policy? We are currently accepting pets at uRth. We currently have 1 cat and 1 dog living in the main house. Pets must be with owner in common spaces, and are not allowed in the kitchen area. New pets must be approved by a vote from the house members. What kind of food is served for dinner? We cook vegetarian/vegan-friendly meals. All food purchased with our house budget is vegetarian but many residents cook and eat meat. Please shoot us an email and come by the house for a dinner!
