Landlord harassment
My experience has been less than positive since I moved in January 1st of this year. While the property manager was welcoming at first, he does very little to keep up the building. Under the deck there was lots of an unusual amount of junk, including broken glass panes, sticks, an old shower door panel, etc. which I did my best to clean up and put at the curb. I spent several hours doing this, and when done, I expected a thank you from the manager. Instead, he called to tell me that the area I spent an entire weekend cleaning up, was his job and viable storage. Needless to say, I was disappointed, not to mention shocked at the lack of care and appreciation this man showed me. I kindly asked him if I could add to the beauty of my new home by adding plants in a now barren planting area. He said no, and I assumed this was because he fathomed it may take more up keep that he did not want to do. A couple months later, I received a notice that I would be evicted. I called in disbelief, to ask what this was all about, and he said that he had seen a cat bowl and that I had not paid the $100 pet deposit. SMH, I did not own a cat, but the neighbor who moved out 3 months after moving in did have a cat and left a bowl on our shared deck. I told him this, and he said ok I guess I will work with you. I believe this is harassment, and he later argued that I had a room-mate that was not approved, all heresay, and told me I would need to move. I told him, no I will not because I signed a lease, and his accusations were false. He then exclaimed that I had better have a good attorney. I said what for? I did nothing to break the terms of the lease. It has been several months since then and I continue to abide by the terms of the lease. This type of property manager/tenant relationship is why I am looking for another place to live at the end of the lease.
