Topanga is Los Angeles County's largest unincorporated community by area, a 20-square-mile canyon enclave where the Santa Monica Mountains descend toward the Pacific. Daily life here leans strongly toward the outdoors: hiking trails begin practically at the doorstep, the air carries the scent of coastal sage, and the main artery, Topanga Canyon Boulevard, connects everything from the beach at the south end to the San Fernando Valley communities of Woodland Hills and Calabasas at the north. Malibu borders to the west and Pacific Palisades to the east, putting two of the coast's most storied stretches within a short drive.
As Topanga covers such a huge amount of land, the rental landscape changes depending on the area. Closer to the coast lie apartment communities with stunning views of the water. Farther out are rental homes, often lying under trees and not far from trails.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
