Trump Parc East
First erected in 1917 as a rent-controlled and stabilized apartment building, Trump Parc East has, for the last three decades, been the slightly more refined jewel in the crown that is former U.S. president and real estate mogul Donald Trump’s portfolio. Though perhaps less ostentatious than some of his other buildings and even those that have gone up or undergone recent refurbishment in its vicinity, the 75-residence condo still features the gilded accents and opulent neo-classical detailing one would expect. Located alongside Trump Parc — the former artistically-inclined Barbizon-Plaza Hotel turned luxury residence — the 14-story prewar midrise benefits from sweeping Central Park views, white glove concierge service and mostly updated units with high-beam ceilings, herringbone hardwood floors, and large windows. According to a 2017 New York Magazine report by Nick Tabor investigating what it’s like to live in the building, everything is kept very clean. “Cleanliness is like an obsession: they clean in the morning, they clean in the afternoon, and it’s always perfect,” homeowner Susana Galli is quoted saying. Notable residents have included Suzanne Blackmer, Arnold Scaasi and Tony Bennet. Given the age of the building — converted into a condo by the Trump Organization in 1997 — no two units have remained the same and often reflect different levels of renovation. While a 1000-square-foot split layout, two-bedroom with original flooring goes for $1.2 million, a 2000-square-foot three bedroom with brand-new kitchen cabinets and marble waterfall countertops fetches 4.5 million. In this large enfilade unit, sizable picture windows wrap the corner of West 59th Street — otherwise known as Central Park South — and 6th Avenue. There are studios and one bedrooms that have sold for under $1 million in the past decade. A sprawling 4,400 square-foot penthouse with a roof deck and grand staircase went for $38 million in 2009. Throughout, a more restrained level of detail reminiscent of turn-of-the-20th-century New York charm lends itself well to sleek contemporary finishes and white-wall spaces that harness ample amounts of natural light. Residents and their guests enter the building through a Central Park South-facing lobby decked out in polished granite and marble. White-gloved door attendants are joined by comparably uniformed concierges. There’s also valeted garage parking, maid services and laundry pick-up. The super lives in the building. In the same 2017 New York Magazine article, residents revealed that there’s tight 24/7 security and a noise ordinance that prevents them from putting nails in the wall after 4 p.m. Central Park, located right across the street, is the building's main draw. Residents can stroll along miles of meandering walkways, bike the park's full loop during warmer months and ice skate at the Wollman Rink in winter. To the East, 5th Avenue hosts major luxury retailers like Bergdorf Goodman, Chanel and Prada. A few blocks west, Columbus Circle features the Deutsche Bank Center mall with a Whole Foods grocery store, 40 premium stores and 10 exclusive restaurants. Prestigious neighborhood haunts in walking distance from Trump Parc East include Marea, Gabriel’s Bar & Restaurant, Sarabeth, Petrossian and Jean Georges. The many institutions of Museum Mile are nearby as well, as is the Museum of Modern Art. Residents that summer in the Hamptons can access the Long Island Expressway from East 59th Street via the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge. While the F subway serves a station at 57th Street and 6th Avenue, the N, R and W lines share a stop at 5th Avenue and 59th Street.
