Wylie, TX Apartments for Rent
One of the prettiest cities in Texas is Wylie. Bordering two large lakes -- Lavon Lake and Lake Ray Hubbard -- and featuring a picture-perfect, Old-West-style downtown, this city starts great and gets even better. Wylie is directly east of Plano and the University of Texas at Dallas, and it is just 20 miles northeast of Downtown Dallas. The city is very focused on building community, offering year-round festivals and events in the historic downtown. These events include Pedal Car Races, Taste of Wylie, the Wylie Championship Rodeo, Bluegrass on Ballard, and the Wylie Arts Festival. Recently named one of the Best Places to Live in America by Money Magazine, Wylie blends historic architecture, activities such as boating and fishing, and gorgeous neighborhoods. The city's fascinating history dates back to the early 1870s, when the frontier town was called Nickelville. The railroad arrived in 1886, but the tracks were laid about a half mile from town, so the residents moved and renamed their new settlement Wylie after railroad agent and Civil War veteran Lt. Colonel William D. Wylie. The town grew quickly, and today it is home to roughly 42,000 residents.
