Located in south-central Indiana, Bloomington combines college-town energy with small-town appeal. As home to Indiana University's main campus with its 45,000 students, the city offers rich cultural and educational opportunities. The downtown area features both contemporary and historic buildings, anchored by the limestone Sample Gates that welcome visitors to IU's campus. Housing options include apartments near campus and residential neighborhoods throughout the city. Currently, renters can expect to pay around $1,116 for a one-bedroom apartment, with rental rates showing a modest annual increase of about 3.3%.
Bloomington's dedication to preserving green spaces earned its Tree City USA designation in 1984. The B-Line Trail connects downtown destinations, while Griffy Lake Nature Preserve and Lake Monroe provide hiking trails, boating, and fishing. Cultural attractions include performances at the restored 1922 Buskirk-Chumley Theater and exhibits at the Eskenazi Museum of Art.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Woods at Latimer (1 bed/1 bath community)
I lived in my Woods apartment for 3 years while working in Bloomington. I had moved around during college, so I had a good feel for what other apartment communities were like. I loved the location- being so close to the grocery, Target, and restaurants. It was fairly quiet, no parties like many of the other places I lived. It was my first "grown up" apartment and I loved every bit of it. I had the one with the office and garage. It was plenty of space for me and perfect for little get togethers. Maintenance was great, I had few problems, but when I did they were taken care of the same day. The office girls were really nice and helpful too. If I ever move back to Bloomington, I'm calling Abodes first.
My boyfriend and I found this apartment online. We liked the fact they were pet friendly and have a fenced in dog park. We have lived here for 6mos now. We rented site unseen and were very impressed to see that the apartment looked just like their pictures online. We've had very good service with the staff. Their maintenance are so quick to fix something and everyone I've spoken to in their office have been really friendly. We're looking forward to staying here for a while. I highly recommend The Woods at Latimer.
Apartment: I rented my apartment at the Woods complex owned by Abodes without seeing the property myself, as I was an incoming graduate student at IU living down in Louisiana. I was nervous that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it has even surpassed my hopes! The apartment looks exactly like the pictures online and the location is perfect for students. The apartments are well made and seem like a home more than university area housing. The apartment has an open kitchen plan and several big windows. My back deck looks directly onto a small woods and offers a good study space. The apartment also has a built-in desk that I use for late-night work, as it also faces the woods and I don't see any headlights or cars to distract me. I've lived here for about a year and already renewed for a second year. Maintenance, Common Areas: The maintenance staff is very helpful and has been to my apartment the same day I've put in a request. The complex is pet friendly and has a small dog park. The complex also has a pool and a small fitness center. It isn't as big as a gym, but I've used it frequently in the cold months when I can't run outside. Surrounding Area: Although the complex is only a street away from the College Mall, there is very little traffic or noise from the mall. And, Target is only a 5 minute walk away! The apartment also sits between several grocery and drug stores, and on two bus lines. For grad students, the complex is on the 9 bus route, which takes you directly to the library, and the 9L which brings you to the south side of campus along 3rd street. The apartments sit on a pocket wood with a path inside that is great for a quick study break. Bottom Line: This apartment is large enough to keep me from feeling cooped up, even in the winter, and has some beautiful views. It is a very quiet complex, so unlike some areas that cater to undergrads, this is a perfect spot for working and studying. Highly recommend for graduate students or professionals.

I lived at the Woods for 2 years while finishing up school at IU. I loved my apartment; especially when compared to where some of my friends lived. Everyone always wanted to be at my place and I don't blame them. Maintenance was good and quick, the office staff was nice. Parking was easy and I liked having the pool and fitness on site. I had to apartment hunt again as I moved out of state, I didn't find anything I liked as much as the Woods.
