Property Ratings at Wilmont Apartments
I have lived in many apartment complexes, and The Wilmont has exceeded all my expectations. The apartments are well maintained, the neighbors are friendly, the veggie pots are fantastic, the history behind the building is rich, and the landlord is outstanding. He replies quickly to your inquiries during the entire leasing process, and once you move in, he makes sure you have everything you need for a successful transition into your new home. In addition, he is respectful of your privacy and tries to make you feel we are living in a close and amicable community. He maintains the building in excellent shape, and the prices are very reasonable according to its location. The location is terrific and near everything. Most importantly, Zack always wants to make sure we live comfortably and safely. Unfortunately, I had to leave my apartment sooner than expected due to medical struggles, but I plan to return to this amazing place this year.
This was a perfect place for me as someone in their mid-20s attending grad school at NCSU. It's quiet (no raging parties, no undergrads), well maintained, has a lot of character and the landlord is incredibly responsive, knowledgable and flexible. I'm very grateful to have found it.
I loved living in this building! The manager is so helpful and really cares about the building and his tenants. The view from the fourth floor is unmatched! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a cute and quiet apartment.
I lived in a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment and loved my time here. The space has lots of windows with natural lighting, 2 entrances, hardwood floors, and lots of character. The landlord also is very quick to respond and understanding of tenants needs. He curates a sense of community, for example during the pandemic he encouraged residents to gather on their balconies and on another occasion provided residents with free beverages from a tea shop. It is a lovely space in a great location by NC State's campus and the greenway. The only downside is that you have to pay for laundry in a separate room on site.
My husband and I lived at The Wilmont for 3 years before leaving due to work relocation. Otherwise, we would have stayed for a lot longer. The apartments are well kept, beautifully updated (including granite counter tops) while maintaining 1920’s character, and very affordable for the location. Utilities were never too high either. There were no surprises moving in to this apartment – what you see from the website, pictures, and tour is what you get. Zack, the landlord, is incredible. He responds to maintenance requests quickly and addresses the issues thoroughly. Pest control and air filter replacement is done on a regular basis. He works hard to establish a community at The Wilmont, occasionally hosting BBQ's in the parking lot for residents and offering friendly porch-decorating competitions. The option to participate in one of the garden plots is also a great way to get to know your neighbors. He never entered our apartment without advanced notice and never made us uncomfortable. He, respectfully, always wore a mask when entering our apartment and sanitized shared spaces during the Coronavirus pandemic. We didn’t struggle too much with noise issues in our unit. Occasionally we could hear our upstairs neighbors walking (creaky floors) or the traffic outside (but only from the living room closest to Hillsborough street). To keep the community clean and friendly, Zack has a few rules he expects the residents to abide by and he is upfront about all of them on his website and in the application/lease process. Zack is one of the most understanding people I’ve encountered…on a human level, not just as a landlord and you won’t regret choosing The Wilmont as your home.
I loved living at the Wilmont. I was a graduate student at NCSU and lived at the Wilmont during the entirety of my program. The landlord was very responsive, the apartment was up to date on appliances, the neighbors were friendly, the room came with parking, great location, and never had an issue with bugs. The only reason I left was because I moved to a different state. I would highly recommend living here.
When we sold our house and needed a place to live, we were lucky enough to find an opening at the Wilmont. The authenticity of the historic building and the great location made the Wilmont the perfect place for us. We didn't know Zack, the owner/manager, but we quickly learned that he is wonderful to work with. He is involved in the day to day operations of the building and always there if you need him. Our experience at the Wilmont was A !
I lived at the Wilmont for just over two years and if it weren't for a career change, I would have stayed forever. The apartments are vintage, yet updated, giving the historic building just the right amount of charm. Located in the heart of Raleigh, the quaint building felt like home in no time. The landlord, Zack, could not have been more helpful. From helping me with moving in to quickly addressing any maintenance needs, I never had a problem at my apartment. I would highly recommend the Wilmont to anyone looking for a great living experience with friendly neighbors, a great maintenance staff, and the perfect location in North Carolina's capital.
Living here you get a centrally located apartment that blends historic charm with modern convenience. The care that Zack puts into the maintenance of this beautiful, historic building is instantly apparent. Hands down the best landlord I have had on all fronts- it's obvious that he truly cares about creating a comfortable space for everyone who lives here.
Location is great; close to a lot of fast-food joints and coffee shops. Beautiful interiors; vintage/victorian styled fixtures. Awesome landlord; Zach is available to assist the residents 24/7. Overall, the best apartment that I have ever stayed in!
Stayed at The Wilmont for a little over a year and highly recommend it! The apartments are well maintained and the community is welcoming. Zachary himself is a wonderful, accommodating landlord who is always there to help. Would rent here again.
Historic feel/charm with modernized kitchen/bath. My husband and I stayed at the Wilmont for over a year, and very much enjoyed it. The location is great, the apartments are very well updated and maintained. Zach, who is the owner and landlord, is very responsive. Whenever you reach out to him with an issue he takes care of it promptly. If it snows overnight, he will be outside shoveling the parking lot the very next morning. The building also tends to build into a very warm community. There raised gardening beds you can rent for the season. The location is great - right on Hillsborough Street near coffee shops, NC State's campus, and biking distance to down town. 10/10 Would live here again.
I was fortunate to live at The Wilmont during my time in Raleigh. The attention to detail and the effort to maintain the buildings original feel was spectacular. The maintenance was reliable and the general upkeep of the complex was great. I would definitely recommend The Wilmont to anyone wanting to be near downtown while still getting that neighborhood feel.
Living in the Wilmont was a wonderful experience! The apartments are beautifully renovated. Most of the residents are young professionals and it was pretty quiet overall, which is pretty rare for an apartment building so close to NC State. The apartment includes access to raised gardens for those interested--we loved being able to grow vegetables during our two years living in the Wilmont. The apartment building is conveniently located near a bus stop that serves GoRaleigh, GoTriangle, and the Wolfline. The GoTriangle route 100 stops just outside of the apartment and goes directly to the airport--a very fast and cheap way to get to the airport. We could also easily walk to numerous restaurants on Hillsborough St. and in Cameron Village. This will be even even better one the Hillsborough St. renovations are completed. Zack is an excellent landlord who is extremely responsive and very quick to fix any issues. He even came to our apartment to work on the air conditioning on Easter when we were having a problem with it. He was always quick to respond to our calls and emails, and it around the property frequently enough that you can find him and talk to him about any issues that you may be experiencing. Overall, living in the Wilmont was great. We would highly recommend it!
My wife and I lived at The Wilmont for a couple years after grad school. Having lived in Raleigh for many years and in many places, I can say The Wilmont is one of our favorites for its character, huge living spaces, and being able to walk to the local CVS, Cup A Joe, and the greenway by Meredith University leading to the local museum. We also loved the patio - we had a great seat to watch fireworks getting launched at the NC State baseball field in the summer, and our dogs loved people-watching from it. Zack (the owner) is hands down the best landlord we have ever had. He is personal (always greeted us by name and got to know us well) and proactive (ex. putting ice melt down before freezing rain and staying the night in the on-site office to help shovel the grounds the next morning). He also kept us well informed about street closures/construction so we weren't met with surprises getting to work. In the rare occasions we had issues that needed to be addressed/fixed in the unit, Zack or one of his associates would handle it promptly - often times in less than a day. The Wilmont is full of great people - we loved all of our neighbors and we miss living there dearly. -P&L
We lived in the Wilmont apartments in 2014 and again in 2016. We loved the building so much that coming back after a year away in another city felt like coming back home. The apartments themselves are beautiful - they have all the character of an old building with wonderful modern appliances and upgrades. The location is great too. The building is walking distance to coffee shops, restaurants, etc. and only a few minutes from downtown. Zach is the best landlord we've ever had. He was super helpful in getting us into an apartment at the last minute when we moved back to Raleigh unexpectedly and is always extremely timely and helpful with any maintenance requests.
I lived here for two years and this place has the best of everything. The apartments are well kept, have some character but also modern updates in the kitchen and bath. Can't beat the location, it's a quick ride by car, bus or bike to downtown, also has easy access to the beltline, and there are plenty of places within a short walk for daily needs. I can't say enough about the management and maintenance, they were always super responsive and accommodating.
I lived in the Wilmont for two years--my first two years in Raleigh--and cannot recommend it enough for people who are interested in superbly well kept and managed apartments, with easy access to downtown and State. The building is a quick drive or bus ride to downtown, and, if you are interested in a quick and very, very cheap ride to the airport, the #100 bus stops right in front of the building. I was looking for an apartment with hardwood floors, something that I found quite rare in apartment living in Raleigh (especially if you're looking for a reasonably-priced place) but I was able to find this at the Wilmont. Some might think the apartments are small, but if you don't like accumulating and acquiring a ton of stuff from aunts and friends and parents and friends of parents, then the single bedroom apartments are the perfect size for one person. Both the kitchens and bathrooms are beautifully updated. Zack is very attentive, professional, and understanding, and helped make the experience of living at the Wilmont enjoyable.
Living at the Wilmont for two years has been one of the highlights of my time in Raleigh. The apartments are beautiful - they are complete with historic charm and updated, modern amenities. Zack is a wonderful landlord. He is very responsive to any issues that may arise, and it's apparent that he truly cares about his tenants having a positive experience at the Wilmont. This location is great for any young professional - it's a short drive to I-40 for the RTP commuters and it's very close to downtown Raleigh. Not to mention, all of the great restaurants and shops located within walking distance. If you're looking for an apartment in Raleigh, look no further!
I lived in the Wilmont for two years and had to move because of a job opportunity out of state. I absolutely loved living at the Wilmont. The apartments have modern conveniences while keeping their vintage charm. I especially loved the hardwood floors and big windows. It has a great location to shops and restaurants along Hillsborough St, Cameron Village and downtown. It is also conveniently located to NCSU (North Campus) and Meredith College. If I ever find myself back in Raleigh, I will certainly look to live at the Wilmont again.
Although I only lived at the Wilmont for a year, I can say it was a great experience. The apartments are incredibly charming. They have all the great historic features of a 1920s apartment with the convenience of modern features in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as HVAC. You can't beat the location, with direct access to downtown Raleigh, the beltline, and Cameron Village. Zack, the landlord, is very responsive to any problems that may come up, and genuinely cares about the building and your living experience. Another positive for me was that even though the building is located close to both NC State and Meredith College, he does not rent to undergraduate students. Overall, you can't beat the location, apartment, or the service you receive while living here, and I would not hesitate to live here again.
I lived in the Wilmont for four years, so I feel like I can provide a good picture of what it’s like to live there as well as explain the aspects that kept me there for so long (and believe me, part of me wishes I never had to leave!). First, the Character of the building: If you do a bit of research, you’ll find that the Wilmont is an apartment building for Raleigh (built in 1928ish), and used to have a fun reputation in the 1970s-80s. The current ownership/management co. purchased the building in 2009 and did quite a lot to update the building (HVAC! Renovated bathrooms! Granite countertops!) while still keeping cool features like the crystal doorknobs, balconies, and much of the original windows. It still feels and looks like a classic brick pre-war building, but I never felt like I was living in the pre-war era! Second, the Location: Being on Hillsborough Street was hugely convenient for getting into downtown Raleigh, as well as getting out of Raleigh via 440 and 40. It was also easy to get to Whole Foods and the Cameron Village Harris Teeter. With newer developments on Hillsborough St., there’s now a CVS just a couple blocks away, as well as some quick eats along the street. This really was a fantastic location, and since Hillsborough St. revitalization is ongoing, I only anticipate it will continue to get better. Third, and the Landlord/Management Co.: A huge reason why I moved into the Wilmont in the first place was because of the Landlord. While the Management Co. is officially Live Oak, the face of it is Zach. He’s an extremely down-to-earth guy, and maybe the definition of a straight-shooter: both qualities that are rare for landlords of apartment buildings of this size. He was always responsive if you needed a quick fix, and he was always involved and dedicated to maintaining the building (when it snowed or iced, he was at the building before sunrise to start shoveling the parking lot), all while very much respecting the privacy of his residents (he never once showed up unannounced, unlike other past landlords I’ve had). Bottom line: I always found him to be very reasonable and understanding, and I never was concerned that he was going to try and screw me out of money (unlike I’ve had with other landlords).
My neighbors and I joke all the time about how we'll be in the Wilmont until we die. Historic, updated, charming, beautiful.... need I say more? Our landlord is absolutely wonderful, and you can't beat the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Living so close to downtown doesn't get much better than this.
