The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

The first time I ever laid eyes on Wellington Woods, I was convinced that I would never live here. The buildings are old and covered in mildew and the garbage receptacles available to each building smell horribly, especially on Sundays. I tried to keep a positive attitude, as I felt that I may have been partially predisposed to hating the complex because of the rumors which surround Lafayette Boulevard; in Fredericksburg, VA, Lafayette Boulevard is known by all to be somewhat dangerous, the not-so-nice part of the beautiful Downtown Fredericksburg. I set aside my initial apprehension and went on a tour. The model had stainless steel appliances- that was the only thing that impressed me. The drywall was uneven and cracked, the paint on the walls seemed to have been slapped on year after year with no sanding, and there were even dried drips of paint going down the walls. I immediately became suspicious when the boy giving me a tour explained to me that Wellington Woods was previously section 8 housing, and told me that no credit check was necessary. My suspicions were confirmed when he told me that he would not even receive his Christmas bonus unless they got all of the apartments rented out by the end of the year, due to the high vacancy. There were dead bugs in the walk-in closet and on the windowsill in the bedroom, and there was no lighting in the bedroom or living room available. As fate would have it, I did end up signing a one-year lease for an apartment at Wellington Woods (I was desperate and apartments were difficult to find at the time), and my apartment is (of course) even worse than the model. The appliances in my apartment are ancient, and the dishwasher has never worked even after being replaced with a supposedly "newer" model. Maintenance is constantly intruding to check and spray for insects and you get charged $150 if you aren't ready when they come, despite the fact that you can't schedule a time that is convenient for you. There are no community features worth mentioning other than to say they are disappointing; the laundry facility is expensive and the pool never seems to be open when we are home; I have yet to notice it open on weekends. I have gotten "late fees" and bills for things that are supposed to be included in my monthly rent, which I have had to really keep an eye out for because I feel like I'm being scammed! We cannot wait to move.
