Located just minutes from Downtown Des Moines to the east, with Des Moines University to the west and the parks along the Raccoon River to the south, Haines Park-Owl’s Head Estates is a charming residential neighborhood. This quiet residential area of housing developments, tree-lined streets, and cul-de-sacs maintains a relatively upscale allure among the Des Moines landscape. There’s an even mix of upscale and modern apartment communities, long-standing townhomes, and incredible single-family homes for rent. The downtown area sits just minutes away and offers residents a variety of choices for culture, dining, and nightlife activities. The area’s close proximity to several city-run parks that line the river also provides opportunities for outdoor recreation and family fun. Interstate 235 and Grand Avenue are just a few blocks north, making a commute to Downtown Des Moines or a journey around the rest of the state simple.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Treehouse Apartments
My experience at Treehouse has been great. Office staff is helpful, maintenance has been quick and very responsive, neighbors are extremely friendly. My 1bed 1 bath unit is the perfect size for me. I love all of the vintage charm that these buildings have to offer - and the LOCATION is unmatched! Parking has also been a plus, covered parking is very cheap compared to other options in the area. The general lot also seems to always have enough parking for everyone, especially since they have been cracking down on towing unauthorized vehicles. I was hesitant when I first moved in because of the lack of reviews for Treehouse online, but I definitely 10/10 recommend!
My experience at the Treehouse Apartments has been nothing short of horrible. During my initial tour, I specifically asked if the building was sound proofed. The Knapp representative jumped up and down and said “I weigh almost 270 lbs and you won’t be able to hear me in the apartment below”. While I expected to hear my neighbors occasionally, as you do in an apartment, I didn’t expect to hear my upstairs neighbors’ every single move. Like clockwork, I am woken up by slamming noises between 11pm-1am, almost every night. After waiting 17 days to receive a response from the property manager, I was told to simply call the police. In addition to losing sleep every night, I experienced two leaks in May. Brown water poured from the ceiling, and through the window seals, in both of my bathrooms. 3 days after the leak, a construction crew came to look at the situation. They came for two weeks at 7am, each morning, and left the bathrooms unfinished. One bathroom was never touched, and brown spots started to spread across the wall. The other bathroom was left with bare drywall and the window frame stripped. Please don’t fall for the charming photos of this historic building’s new remodel. There aren’t enough parking spots for all tenants, but we do have the option to pay monthly for a reserved spot in the garage. The garage is plagued with potholes and a wire net was installed to catch falling pieces from the dilapidated ceiling. Although there isn’t any guest parking available, if you did happen to have someone visit, the brand new buzzer system is nonfunctional. The only benefit to living here, is the ability to connect with other tenants. We are all miserable and can bond over our horrible experiences.
