Situated in the heart of America's Heartland, Ames is a college town in central Iowa. The city wraps around its stellar Iowa State University, the state's flagship university and a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. Property Ratings at Town Centre

Not well-taken care of.
It's not a slum, but it's obviously someone's retirement project. It is fairly cheap, so I'm not expecting the Four Seasons, but a coat of paint over the black scrape marks in the bedroom wouldn't have gone amiss. The tension rod in the bathroom is always breaking, and the showerhead is more like a garden hose, so I've ended up putting some of my own cash into the upgrades. Worst of all: Practically speaking, there's no laundry. I mean, there is, but it's coin-operated and we've been in a national coin shortage for the past 6 months. Aldi only gives $1 in quarters at a time. Target only gives $2. Hy-Vee is no longer giving out quarters. Banks aren't either. It's stuff like this, easy (and relatively cheap) fixes, that accumulate over time into an experience that isn't very good.
