As one of the major economic centers of Alabama and one of the signature cities of the Southeast, Birmingham has done an impressive job of adapting to the new demands of the 21st century. The city that once built a reputation as the “Pittsburgh of the South” thanks to a robust steel manufacturing industry is now a hip community attracting entrepreneurs, artists, and innovative personalities. Birmingham remains one of the most active business hubs in the region, with headquarters for everything from banks to biotech firms operating in the city.
The dining, nightlife, and entertainment scenes have all grown rapidly in recent years, and just about everyone in town has an opinion about where to find the best brewery. Gorgeously preserved historic buildings and a pervasive attitude of down-home hospitality have kept Birmingham’s famous southern charm intact as well, creating a unique environment where the best elements of the traditional and the modern complement each other.

Property Ratings at Tower on Tenth
I had been a resident at Tower on Tenth and recently ran into serious issues with how the management handled changes to the electricity billing. My lease clearly states that electricity is billed based on personal usage via a third-party billing system. But management informed me that starting October 1, 2025, a new billing method will be used—leading to projected electricity costs over ten times higher than usual. When I asked for specifics (how the new charges are calculated, whether my lease allows this mid-term change, and documentation of the clause that permits it), the manager responded aggressively rather than answering clearly. I live alone and will be out of town for part of October. The projected charges are unreasonable, misleading, and feel like a breach of the original lease agreement. Management’s response has made me deeply distrustful of how billing and lease terms are handled. I advise anyone moving here to read the lease carefully, especially the utility terms, and demand clear answers before signing anything.
When I moved in over a year ago, this place was great. The on site team was great. They had monthly events, took care of the facilities, and maintenance was quick as could be. Now, this place is simply a sinking ship with one exception. Peyton, the assistant manager is fantastic. She is the ONLY reason that this place is bearable to live in at the moment. She is respectful and on top of what she does. Now to why I would not recommend living here. 1: The decision to include Air BnB has a mistake. We were emailed to not let people you do not know into the building but with all the random Air BnBer's you don't know if someone is suppose to be here or not. They openly smoke marijuana out in the terrace which is ILLEGAL in Alabama. I have seen them do this several times now. They have left the lobby a messy several times, and use up the limited parking space that is available to residents. 2. Today were emailed WITHOUT warning that they were revoking temporary parking passes and if you had been actively PAYING MONTH for a spot but not in the computer system then you would have your permit revoke. This is simply unacceptable. A personal friend of mine had his permit revoke because and I quote from the head manager herself today "He did everything correct. Someone (on our end) did not put him in the system. There is nothing I can do." Excuse me? You are the manager of the complex. He has been paying for a spot for over a year and he is not in your system? That is the very definition of negligence. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE PAST. YOU ARE THE MANAGER. IT IS YOUR JOB TO FIX THESE ISSUES. I asked the head manager how could they do this without notice and she stated that they sent out several emails. I know for a fact that this is inaccurate as I am on the list for a parking spot and I only received an email this afternoon. The lack of professional and human decency is frankly appalling. I would not recommend this apartment to anyone, and I know several people moving out. Once again, Peyton is fantastic. She is the salt of the earth. She deserves a raise, and an extra week off for her troubles.
