Head east from Baton Rouge for about eight miles to discover the suburban neighborhood of Avalon, a peaceful, tree-filled community that's ideal for commuters. Avalon is located between Florida Avenue and I-12, between Sherwood Forest and River Run.

While primarily a residential neighborhood, Avalon offers a shopping strip along Millerville Road that offers everything from restaurants to pharmacies. More shopping and dining is available off O'Neal Lane and along Florida Boulevard. Avalon is directly south of Waddill Wildlife Refuge, and several other parks are located nearby. The closest, Flannery Road Park, offers a baseball field, a playground, and a recreation center with indoor basketball courts.
