Property Ratings at The Ridge at Talcott Mountain
Don’t get me wrong, when I moved into this complex, it was the nicest place I had ever lived. Its location right behind Talcott Mountain makes it a beautiful complex. I was in awe when I pulled into the complex each day after work in the fall. The unit I lived in was an end unit townhouse, about 1600 sq. ft. Everything changed once winter hit and the deep cold set in. As early as December, my pipes froze, and apparently so did those of a lot of other units. There were emails from management asking tenants to drip the pipes overnight. Then January came and things got worse. Not only did I have to drip the pipes at night, but the heat itself stopped working. I had no heat for over a week while they got somebody to service the unit. Their fix in the meantime was a few space heaters to heat over 1600 sq. ft. Even after the HVAC guy came through, the unit still malfunctioned on multiple days. Every single time they would have their handy man come in and reset it. It would work for a few hours and die in the middle of the night so my family and I would wake up in the middle of the night in the freezing cold. This happened all throughout the month of January. In Connecticut, the average temperature during that month was 18°F, and a lot of nights overnight it got much colder. Management didn’t offer any assistance other than the space haters. Then came the awful week when both the pipes froze and I had no heat. A homeless shelter would’ve been better. At least there I would’ve had heat and running water. Legally, there were very few remedies available to me because they made continued attempts to fix it. They failed over and over. It was not until the end of January when they finally installed a part that kept the unit working. As soon as they installed that they took away the space heaters. It’s almost like they knew that was what was needed all along. Once that piece was in, the heat worked but not correctly. I would set the heat downstairs to 65° and it would be 90° upstairs. I just wanted a good night’s sleep! The saddest part of all is that my 13 year old cat died at the end of January of a heart condition, even though she had never been diagnosed with anything of the sort. Of course I think that this temperature situation contributed to her death, but I can’t prove it. I have a hole in my heart because of this. All that to say, I hope you read this before you sign a lease there. I would not recommend the Ridge at Talcott Mountain
I have lived in many apartments with various landlords or property managers. My moving experience at the ridge was seamless and the staff were so accommodating. I worked with Kim and Shannon to find a townhouse for my family. They listened to my needs and were able to answer any questions I had. We have loved the property and are excited to use the pool and other amenities this summer! Can’t thank them enough.
My kids love the pool and having the green to play soccer and lacrosse. Great premises that are well kept and the property management team is fantastic.
Renter beware!!! We lived at this complex for 4 years. When we moved in, although they claimed the apartment had been cleaned, it was very dirty!! The apartments and townhouses have issues with air conditioning, heating, hot water heaters, faulty appliances, terrible workmanship and cheap cabinets, floors, counter tops and the list goes on and on!! At the end of your lease, you are expected to pay $300.00 for them to clean your rugs and $180.00 a wall for them to re-paint! Extremely small mail room that cannot accommodate the number of tenants. You can wander around looking for your packages for a long time. However, you will be notified that if you do not pick up your packages within 24 hours, they will be returned. Too many tenants and not enough parking spots, so don't expect to have guests over unless you are prepared to pick them up at a commuter parking lot! So many other options to choose from that are much, much nicer than The Ridge at Talcott Mountain in Simsbury, CT.
The worst experience I have ever had with management and an apartment complex. Leasing staff calls you obnoxious and annoying when dealing with issues that no tenant should have to deal with. Moved from a townhouse to an apartment, and was not shown the unit prior to moving in and paying rent. Paid for the first month and paid for movers to move all of my belongings in. When night time rolls around, I am greeted by a cockroach infestation. I have spent thousands on moving, hotel stays, and they STILL are charging me daily for rent. When I tell the leasing agent Kim Howard that it needs to be expedited, I am called obnoxious. Nightmare management/disgusting apartments. I have had to pay out of pocket for the damages to my belongings.
My girlfriend and I moved to Connecticut from Texas in June 2019, and The Ridge at Talcott Mountain was just finishing construction on its first apartment buildings and beginning to accept leases. During our tour we loved the great outdoor views, the amazing rental units, and their pet-friendly policy. Brent, the property manager, was extremely friendly and helpful with the application process. We moved in to one of the first finished units in July 2019 and have enjoyed living there since. They have great amenities, the neighbors are quiet and friendly, and it's a great atmosphere, with several events (although these had to be somewhat curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic, to which the apartment responded with responsible, common-sense safety measures). It's been really enjoyable for us to watch as new apartment buildings and amenities are completed, and the community begin to grow. We plan to renew our lease this year, and although I'm not typically inclined to write reviews, I'm so happy with our experience that I wanted to write this and give my wholehearted recommendation.
DO NOT MOVE HERE. the biggest regret besides moving to an amazing town. These apartments were built with a lit they got from Ebay or it feels like it!! I have been here 5 months. I call maintenance if not daily, weekly!! Appliances break. Floors are buckling, the HEAT does not work properly. I moved in with no blinds, no cabinet shelves. Excuse after excuse. The company takes ZEEO ownership. I'm currently with frozen pipes because my townhouse was built incorrectly. This is not isolated. All of my neighbors are having the same issues. The management does not get ahead of any problems when they are aware. My pipes freezing could have been prevented. They knew the issue when it happened a week ago to someone else. They basically wait to see if someone complains and "try" to fix things. This is FAR from luxury living. They tell you all of the amenities they will have and half of them aren't built and promised but, never happen. I'm disgusted with how much I pay and how we are treated when it comes to these issues and how the issues never stop. DO NOT MOVE HERE. It's a complete shame as we watch them give tours and popping more of these insufficient buildings up like legos and not addressing any of these regular issues you have when you live here. They are too busy not taking blame and instead blaming hvac companies they hire, plumbers, and everyone else but, them.
