A city built on agriculture, Sumner is still known as the “Rhubarb Pie Capital of the World” to this day. Sumner rests in a lush valley where the White River flows into the Puyallup River, offering residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to engage in outdoor recreation and appreciate the surrounding natural beauty.
Despite major growth, Sumner has maintained its small-town charm. Sumner residents often gather in the historic downtown area, where rows of boutiques, shops, cafes, and businesses are stacked on tree-lined Main Street. Downtown Sumner is also the site of numerous community events, such as the Daffodil Parade, Wine Walks, and Music Off Main. A host of area attractions are just minutes from Sumner, including major retail centers, casinos, and a variety of parks. Commuting and traveling from Sumner is easy with access to roadway and highway connections as well as Sounder commuter rail, which connects Sumner to nearby cities like Tacoma and Seattle.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at The Retreat
This place will take advantage of you in any way they can and you will get nothing in return. They don't manage the property, botched it when the river flooded, ruining the grass, Easement allows anyone to walk with a foot of your apartment at all hours with their dogs, who crap everywhere. Non-residents and visitors park to gain river access, especially during fishing season. Rats at times ran rampant in the overflowing garbage and it took months to correct . Bushes and facilities unkempt. Definitely not quit nor in any means a retreat. They do not enforce rules or tenant resposibility
I lived at the River Grove apartments before they became the Retreat apartments; in total about 7 years and loved it. I only left because I moved out of state. The river is peaceful and it's a quiet community. I struggled with fleas as some people mentioned but I have pets. I think it was worse because of the bunnies on the property but they are part of the peaceful setting and I really enjoyed them so I didn't mind putting a little extra effort in fighting the fleas. Amanda and Jake have been there since I moved in and both have been great when I needed something; office related or maintenance related. I firmly believe they care and want everyone to enjoy living there. Overall, there are some tradeoffs when living so close to nature. But for me, they are worth it.
I have tried calling many different times of the day to no answer and when I leave a message I have never gotten a return call.
