A small, east side neighborhood with a hipster vibe, Chestnut is an affordable Austin neighborhood that’s about a mile from the University of Texas at Austin campus. Chestnut residents can hop aboard the MetroRail at M L King Jr Station and quickly get to work or school. Chestnut is located between Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and East 12th Street, extending from Chicon Street east to Airport Boulevard.
One of the neighborhood’s quirkier features is the Museum of Natural & Artificial Ephemerata, an in-home, family-run museum of quirky collections. Tours are available with a suggested donation, where you’ll enjoy themed exhibitions as well as traveling exhibitions. Another unique landmark, the Coleto Moonlight Tower, is a historical light tower located on the corner of 13 Street and Coleto Street. Built in 1894, 31 ltowers lit up Austin and stood 164 feet tall. Today, only a few remain.

I really enjoy living here overall. The amenities are great and make the community comfortable, but the neighbors could use a bit of improvement. Unfortunately, there are some issues with sticky fingers, and not everyone is picking up after their dogs, which is frustrating. On a positive note, Becca has been amazing—she’s incredibly compassionate, understanding, and always responds quickly, which I really appreciate. Personally, I haven’t had many problems aside from the occasional stolen package or missing meal, but nothing too major. Overall, it’s been a good experience!

Spacious apartment with great natural light and modern appliances. Quiet neighborhood and friendly staff. Minor maintenance delays, but overall a comfortable and enjoyable place to live.

I love living here. The amenities are great: the pool, bbq grills, weight room, Amazon lockers and even a parking garage (for an extra fee). Staff is kind. Convenient location. I wish I found this place years ago!

I live living at the rail. Being around the students,environment,retired teacher, ln my settle 70 makes me feel like l am on the college campus again. Finally, I live the staff, communication, and the different activities we have love the staff. Would love to have a business center for the residents.
Absolutely love this apartment community- the location and neighborhood are perfect for commuting and there’s so many places right around the corner for amazing food. All my neighbors and the leasing staff have been so friendly and makes me feel like I made the right decision moving here
The Rail has been the upgrade I needed in an apartment home. The units are spacious with high ceilings and kept up nicely. Additionally, they are very clean and easy to maintain. The kitchen has lots of counter space for meal prepping and cooking. The water pressure is ideal and the A/C works great. The complex itself gives off modern, central city-living vibes. It is conveniently located near a bus stop and rail station (hence the name). In the neighborhood, you will see a lot of people jogging, riding, or walking their dogs. This means the area is safe and walkable. Overall, I have enjoyed my time at The Rail and am excited to continue living here.
Living at The Rail has been a very pleasant experience for myself and my family. I love the high ceilings and the beautiful floor plan. I also love how I can almost never hear my neighbors. The pool is always clean - I notice and appreciate it very much. Britton has been my point of contact since before day one and has always been super polite and friendly. I’m sure the rest of the office staff is nice too. Definitely 10/10 stars for The Rail.
The Rail has affordable yet high quality apartments located in one of the best neighborhoods in the city. Everyone on the property staff is wonderful and the sense of community is excellent.
10/10 would recommend. Makayla was very patient and helpful with the affordable housing application and the staff at the Rail has been easy to communicate with about any concerns I've had such as deliveries and utility set up. The apartment units look very nice with new appliances. I think my unit is perfect for me, as I am in one of the single studios. Overall it's been a great experience.
Management at the rail is friendly and was very helpful with helping me submit my application and singing my lease. Move in was a breeze and I didn’t encounter any issues. The apartments are quiet, the appliances are great, and the studios are the perfect size for me. Glad I chose The Rail as my new home!

Britton and MaKayla are always welcoming. The service from front desk to maintenance- always exceptional. The timely and friendly response to maintenance concerns by Jose was a pleasure to have and I honestly couldn't have had a better living experience. They make me feel like I'm right at home. The property is quiet & peaceful. The cleanliness- always impeccable. The location- very accessible- there’s a metro and bus stop next to the property. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
