Established in 1795, historic Downtown Clarksville contains beautiful architecture and a distinctive Southern style. The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center, housed in an 1898 building, explores the region's history and is the second-largest museum in the state. At the heart of this regal neighborhood sits Austin Peay State University, the fastest-growing university in Tennessee.
Located along the Cumberland River, Downtown Clarksville has amazing river views. The river is lined with parks and jogging paths and the McGregor Park Riverwalk, a park with boat ramps, a walking trail, and a bike-sharing station. Residents can shop at the Clarksville Downtown Market, a weekly farmers' market. The historic Roxy Theatre, built in 1947, is an Art Deco building that offers live performances.
