Property Ratings at The Lofts at Hawthorne Mill
The inside of the apartments are beautiful. The floors are refurbished wood. They look great and also help hide small dirt and crumbs between vacuum days. The large windows are gorgeous and let in sun most parts of the day, however they don't open to let in any fresh air. The flip side is that I never found any bugs anywhere in my apartment. They do periodically offer free bug spraying services, which I imagine the first floors would need. They also hold around 4 small complex-wide events per month, such as a karaoke night or an ice cream sundae event. The leasing office is more helpful than an average leasing office is. The actual leasing office employees are fantastic. They will do whatever they can, within their own abilities, to help you out. I had occasional minor issues, but these issues would likely have been much worse at another complex. Stephen in particular was always extremely polite and offered assistance outside his job parameters multiple times, including coming on a Saturday to get me keys. The rent is a bit high, but if you can afford to live here you will get your money's worth.
Amazing property! Great location. Go see Cali at the leasing office. The property manager is awesome too. They’re friendly, professional, patient, and on top of the process! Apartments are super cool, huge windows, upgraded appliances, and a variety of unique floor plans.
After moving in, I happily gave a 5 star review and I still love living here. However, there are some issues that need to be sorted out... -----The Positives: The location is great - some others have left negative reviews regarding location and I disagree. I have walked home late at night many times and have felt safe. My commute to work uptown is very quick and easy in the morning as well! The building is beautiful! I have gorgeous windows, exposed brick walls, original hardwoods and a shiplap ceiling! The pool, gym and fire pits are great! My neighbors have quickly become my friends! -----The Negatives: Lots of units leak. Mushrooms grow out of the bricks inside some units. The appliances (especially the washer/dryer and dishwasher) give frequent issues. It's my understanding that this is common with low-end Frigidaire appliances. Kitchen cabinets - my cabinet above my fridge has fallen off the wall twice. Each time they responded to my complaints and repaired them. Clearly it was just a rush job installing them initially. The staff has recently changed and not for the better. Lots of spiders when I first moved in - and i still see them occasionally. The worst encounter was a 6" spider IN MY BED. My neighbor recently sent me photos of a black snake she found in her unit. I now sleep with a shovel by my headboard just in case I have to fight them off in my unit! There aren't really events here every month like other places I've rented in Charlotte which is really a bummer. ---- Summary: For a long time, the architecture and location outweighed the bad - but they have since become insurmountable. Stay away!
Love love love the historic and restored building with great amenities in a wonderful location. Unfortunately, the property management is the worst I’ve experience in years and years of renting. They cannot keep a property manager and leasing agents for longer than a few month. I assume It’s because they treat their staff with the same intimidating and threatening behavior they use towards their residents. While most residents understand lease agreements and rules, management tends to disregard the same to benefit them (For example: entering apartments without prior notice or notice at all). They often treat residents as though we were doing them a favor by living here, lack apologies for their mistakes and accuse residents before properly investigating the issue at hand. In fact, I personally felt I had to leave this review after I moved out last month in fear of retaliation and mistreatment.
This building is an amazing example of how a restoration should be done. The history and architecture are blended in a manner that makes you feel like you own a little bit of the past. The amenities are top notch and an added bonus to an already great property. The windows let in tons of natural light for plant lovers. Last but not least the site staff are pleasant to work with, treat you like family, and get the job done!
