West Village is a historic, up-and-coming neighborhood about four miles east of the heart of Downtown Detroit. This urban neighborhood earned its name for being located directly west of Indian Village, one of the city’s most prominent historic neighborhoods. Although the West Village only spans a few blocks, this small neighborhood packs a lot of charm. West Village blends the old and new, boasting a variety of historic architectural styles including Queen Annes, Tudors, and rowhouses along with modern apartment buildings. Rentals in the West Village range from affordable to upscale, so there is truly something for every renter here.
Along with quirky specialty shops and fitness centers, the West Village is known for its incredible dining scene. Some Detroiters claim the West Village is one of the best places to grab a bite to eat with its eclectic collection of eateries from Detroit Vegan Soul Food to Sister Pie, which is nationally known for its baked goods.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
