The Near Northside neighborhood provides all the convenience and allure of city living. Located just over a mile from the center of downtown Indianapolis, the area serves as a prime living space for people from all walks of life. Students at IUPUI enjoy a very short commute to classes and can even bike the whole way on the convenient Cultural Trail path. Business men and women need only to travel a mile or two to reach almost any business within the city. Residents love the proximity to the finest restaurants and nightlife of the city found on Massachusetts Avenue.
Also referred to as the Old Northside, this neighborhood traces its roots back to the origins of the city of Indianapolis. Today, the area retains a strong emphasis on buying local goods and encouraging the growth of Indianapolis business over big retail chains.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at St. James
The apartment unit with a letter instead of number it’s a basement unit with poor cell service, bad window views, and a layout that feels more like a glorified studio than a true one-bedroom. The bedroom is next to the laundry room and has a heating unit inside, which adds noise and discomfort. The hallways are dirty and cooking smells from other units easily spread throughout. The unit wasn’t accurately represented online with no picture and with a long lease and all these issues, it would’ve been better to find a cheaper place elsewhere downtown.
If you are in the market for an historic but updated building in a central Indy location, then the St. James could be the home for you. Hardwood floors and big windows give the units a classic character. There is also an abundance of closet and storage space which seems unusual for an historic building. It's minutes from the heart of downtown and cab fare is cheap to Mass Ave or Broadripple. Students, young professionals and couples call the St. James home. It's true that there aren't the amenities of a brand new complex (no in unit washer & dryer, pool or gym), but the St. James has been a great spot to live near downtown without breaking the bank.
