Retreat at Farmington

If Gordon Ramsay created a TV series called Apartment Nightmares, The Retreat would be the highlight of the season. If I were to describe this decrepit apartment complex in a few words it be like illustrating a scene from a horror movie: flea infested, mold contaminated, hazardous wasteland. They should seriously consider renaming the community to The Nightmare on Gateway Street. As I scroll through the reviews for The Retreat, I’m reminded of my time watching Law & Order: SVU; except these are the stories of the victims. To depict the reviewers as victims wouldn’t be an exaggeration. The leasing staff at The Retreat utilizes deceptive sales tactics to lure in would-be customers by showing them an ideal apartment model that doesn’t remotely resemble the unit itself. However, don’t expect to see your unit UNTIL move-in day; instead, they will delay with excuses for fear of losing potential customers. Once you’ve stepped into your decrepit unit expect to be met with a host of issues, including, but not limited to: - Non-working appliances (e.g., washer/dryer) - Molded dishwasher/washer - Non-working toilets - Leaking faucets - Non-existent sound proofing between the subfloor - Etc. But don’t expect any sympathy from the leasing office after you’ve expressed your dissatisfaction with the unit; you’ve signed a legally binding contract with the devil himself. The discounted 13-month lease was merely a ploy to pique your interest in the hellish abode. My advice to all onlookers: stay away from The Nightmare of Farmington Hills.

This has by far been one of the worst property managements I have ever experienced.  Starting at move in, I was told that I might have to wait to move into my apartment because they were not done cleaning it. That was a JOKE. My apartment was not cleaned. They may have replaced the carpets and that was it. I had to mop several times before my floors were cleaned. Also, upon moving in, multiple things were broken, missing, or not working properly. I still to this day do not have a drain plug in my bathroom sink. A towel holder was hanging off the wall, the buzzer to the apartment doesn't work but neither do the locks to the building doors.  I have put in multiple maintenance requests to get things fixed. They have canceled some of them and marked some of them as completed even though they never did anything.  At one point, I noticed water damage in my ceiling (I am on the bottom floor) and put in a request to have it addressed. After almost 2 weeks and no call from maintenance, my ceiling started to collapse and water was leaking into my apartment. They ripped out the drywall and exposed a ton of MOLD in my ceiling. And the hole sat open for a whole MONTH. The Property Manager told me she would personally call me when she hired a contractor to fix it. Imagine my surprise when maintenced called to tell me she wasn't going to get a contractor and so they would just do the patch job themselves.  They also LEFT MY STOVE ON when I was not home, when I had a maintenance request for that. All I got was an "I'm sorry" for COMPLETE NEGLIGENCE. Now, my dryer is burning my clothes for the SECOND time and they have had a whole week to contact me.  Save your money and go literally anywhere else. I can't wait for my lease to be up. 

Recently moved in to the newly leased apartment which was infested with bed bugs leading to serious bodily injuries. Complains to management went to deaf ears as they don't care for the health of the tenant's . Please don't get carried away by the free rents offered to lure to occupy these apartments which are hazardous and please try to get opinions from existing tenant's before singing the lease agreement.

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! My stove has been broke and "poorly put together" over 12 TIMES. REFUSE TO REPLACE. Have to wait WEEKS for someone to come fix it. Heat went out in January, maintenance claimed the whole furnanced needed to be replace so I had to wait over a week because they didn't make new parts for it anymore. Claimed they replaced it.. It is now MAY and my air conditioning is out. It has been 80 DEGREES or more this whole week it has been out. I have a new born and had to rush him to hospital because of overheating!! Management has told me MULTIPLE TIMES someone is going to come look at it. 5 Days later some comes and say the FURNACE IS OLD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED I HAVE TO GET ON A WAITING LIST. I have to go get rooms for my child and I. Property manager was suppose to call, NEVER DID. They don't accommodate you, they don't care if its an emergency or life or death. PLEASE THIS IS THE WORST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE. EVERYTHING IS LIES AND POORLY PUT TOGETHER.

Beware. This is the worst apartment.moulds all over washing machine. Dryer hasn’t been working we kept on complaining the management hasn’t done anything for over 5 months. Instead of changing she is telling us to go to laundromat. Imagine you can’t wash at the comfort of your home after paying your rent.

I have lived here for over 25 years, and throughout the years, we have seen the management change and witnessed the decline in the overall quality of this complex. We received the "remodeled" apartment with the bathroom walls peeling off, the ceiling in the living room close to collapsing, among many other imperfections akin to these, with management refusing to fix any of this, not even the paint, and suggesting that it won't be fixed until after we move. Recently, we were charged $50 for "damages" after leaving a bicycle on the patio because we were on vacation and couldn't move it inside after the notice (note we've had bikes on the patio for over a decade with no complaint prior). We inquired about the possibility of not paying for August and moving out a bit earlier, considering our contract technically ends on August 31st. Last Friday, we sought advice from the apartment complex employees about this possibility and they advised us to wait until Monday to discuss it with the manager. However, when we returned on Monday to speak with the manager, to our dismay, the management informed us that we failed to provide a 60 days notice before vacating the premises. Instead of showing any compassion or understanding for our longstanding tenancy, they coldly insisted that we not only pay for August but also a staggering 17 days of September. As a result, we are now being forced to pay for three extra days than it would have been on Friday, highlighting the management's lack of accountability and disregard for their own guidance, leaving us feeling deceived and frustrated. It is beyond disheartening to see how heartless and inflexible they can be, especially considering our 25-year residency here. You would think that after such an extended period of being reliable, responsible tenants, they would be willing to make a simple exception. It feels like they care more about squeezing every last penny out of us rather than acknowledging the decades we've spent calling this place home. Their refusal to extend even the slightest courtesy is a clear sign of their callousness and lack of appreciation for loyal residents. In conclusion, I strongly advise against considering this apartment complex for your living needs. The shoddy remodel, lack of compassion, rigid policies, and general indifference towards longtime residents make this a place to avoid. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment by looking elsewhere for a more humane and caring housing option.

Have lived here not even 3 months and the list of negative things accumulates daily. Apartment NOT up to any standard I’ve ever lived by. Many RUDE and LOUD neighbors surrounding us. Definitely NOT worth the rent they charge. I could’ve rented something about half the price to deal with these same issues. Do better Beztak!!!

We love Retreat at Farmington Hills. This will be our home for years to come. The staff, grounds, in-apartment amenities, layouts and location are all beautiful.

They bribe their residents to write positive reviews with ice cream and pizza parties. Truth about the place is it’s not luxury but any means they cheapest revolution you’ll ever see once you move in and they will have you without hot water and basic maintenance repairs and refuse credit.

Website promotes a gated entrance with package services, neither apply to these apartments. Maintenance is either understaffed or there's poor communication from management as the issues do not get resolved quickly.

My Ac Broke going on 2 1/2 months now. Temperature is currently 89 i sided. Maintenance provided me with a portable Ac… I’m guessing their planning on waiting a few more months to fix my Ac. Anyways Portable Ac broke so Now I’m left with a Hot apartment. The people in the office literally has no clue what’s going on. Every time I call for an update they are lost of words. This is honestly the worst place I’ve ever lived. They don’t care about their residents at all. How are you redoing the car ports but your residents are burning up in there home? Hire better/more maintenance then worrying about the outside looks.

Great community. The staff is friendly and approachable. Well manicured, clean, pet and family friendly. Perfect environment to enjoy peace at the end of a long day.

Ever since Beztak have taken over the property, I have seen nothing but great progress. Keep up the work, I love it here.

I’ve been renting for about 7 years and this has been my favorite space so far. The process from application to move-in was stress-free and the staff was very helpful throughout. Location is great and close to many stores and services, and it’s less than a mile away from all major highways. I’m very happy with my decision to call RaF my home.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. You pay all this money for a decent place but in return you get flat tires from the terrible roads. Anyone can walk up to your front door of your apartment. No safety. The downstairs door knob keeps falling off every so often, maintenance won’t replace the doorknob so sometimes there’s no way to get into YOUR HOME unless you walk through a field to get into the back. Buzzers looks like they haven’t worked in 10 years.(Currently doesn’t work). Maintenance Takes months to come out and fix anything. I should have thoroughly read the reviews before I signed my lease. I’m tired of having to complain for months so I can get any kind of assistance around here. So if you want to pay a lot of money to live in a Place like this.. then go for it… atleast you have “marble” countertops…

This is honestly the worst place I have ever lived. We have had problems since day 1. When we moved in we provided a check for the current and upcoming months rent. They then lost that check and filed for eviction before asking us for payment. (So apparently they think their staff let us move in without payment, which speaks to how competently they run the company). We waited in the office an hour to talk to the property manager because she was too busy doing a report to talk to her tenants. The staff we interacted with were rude. We replaced the check they had lost, and have paid rent on time since that incident. They said they would dismiss the case, they have not yet. There are other small issues with the apartment I would forgive if the office staff was more helpful, but they are not. The renovation were done extremely cheaply and were not finished when we moved in. There is no wall behind the washer/dryer, the pipes are exposed. The painters got paint on everything. Don’t live here, it is NOT worth the money.

By far the worst place I’ve ever lived! Listen to the reviews!! The staff is unprofessional and very deceiving. They blame everything on the residents. There has been issues since the moment I signed the lease. I’m going to do a more detailed review from the beginning to current which will include photos of a poorly managed property.

2 months after moving in and still no phone lines for internet installed in the apartment. It would be a full time job to make sure these people are doing their full time job.

Don’t be deceived. The photos show a beautiful property with state of the art remodeling & utility upgrades. While the remodeling looks nice in the photos, it’s cheap & very poorly executed once you get close enough to actually see the work. My outlets & mirrors are crooked & the floors are uneven. There are paint streaks all over the walls & paint drips all over the hard floor, carpet & countertops. I had to have my brother come & fix a couple of my cabinets because they weren’t installed properly & wouldn’t even open all the way. Not to mention the microwave shorts out 50% of the time you go to use it. The outsides of the buildings are literally falling apart (the doorways, balconies, etc.), the buzzers & door locks don’t even work to enter the building, so anyone could walk in at any time. Not to mention I’ve had to have maintenance come fix the lock on my own door multiple times since I’ve lived here. The banisters in the stairways are broken, & the carpet is old & stained. The hallways are dingy, dark & smelly. The police are here weekly. Not just one car, at least 3 & sometimes up to 10, lined up rushing into an apartment. Customer service at the leasing office is absolutely terrible. The maintenance guys are very nice but I am pretty sure they haven’t been properly trained on how to do their jobs effectively (ie. having to get my lock fixed multiple times). Their “dog park” is essentially fenced in patches of overgrown grass & dirt, & the lawn around the buildings is very poorly maintained & also overgrown. You can smell everything your neighbors are cooking (& smoking!), which I guess hasn’t been so bad lately since almost everyone has moved out of the building. Counting down the days until I am out of here, myself.

I recently moved to this place, since day one problems started to arise. Leaving aside the fact that the property in general looks run down at first glance, it appalls that when you get your apartment, it's filthy, rugs from the former occupants abandoned, moldy bathrooms, stains on the glass doors, poop stains on the toilet. Paint-stained floor, old and stained mirrors, entries that will not close, literally anyone can enter your complex, aging facilities, apartments without internet or cable installation, then you will spend weeks without wifi. Worst of all is the challenge you will receive from the managers of the place; they tell you that they will send someone to clean, fix or check, And no one will show up if you want to clean up someone else’s clutters and poop. The Retreat is the right place.

Its a shme - the pictures of the place are beautiful, but oh so deceiving. What they say they offer is not altogether true. Price is ridiculous for what you actually get. They say maintenace issue is fixed when its not. There is NO controlled security & many health/safety hazards. The intercom & door locks haven't worked since I've been here. I don't have a garbage disposal. Same trash sits for months in lot & entranceways (a neighbor in another builing is out picling up trash by his building area & dumpster weekly). It took 2 months to get some form of Internet cable service due to no cable running to my apt & mgt forbidding my cable company to install. The floors not level. Water leaks into walls & shorts out electricity. Noise & smells from neighbors permiate through vents/walls worse than I've ever dealt with. Washers/dryers connected to other apts in bldg & sprays into your unit. Ive had to shovel ice off entrance & walkway since they won't maintain. Mold/dirt just painted over in the shower/tub. Electricity not set up right. 3/4 of unit on one breaker & goes out weekly. Get shocked daily. The list goes on ... 1st year lease ending & I absolutely have to go.

improper building construction or poor maintenance of living quarters. buildup of animal or human waste. insect and/or vermin infestations. non-functional utilities such as water, gas, or electricity. I noticed a draft and Sliding door was unlocked and we never use it I always make sure it’s locked Doors are being propped open with a brick The main door to our building is broken again The side walk is so icy I slipped and I pulled a muscle Roaches have increased , instead of handling the issue by treating they came to vacuum the hallway of my building, it is awful here. Yes they tried to vacuum up the roaches I will no longer continue to stay here I complained to the leasing office about my concerned and I feel as if I’m being neglected I think because I’m moving out my concerns are being taken extremely lightly

I recently took a tour through “The Retreat at Farmington” the other day and I need to say first and foremost!! Whom ever did the Interior Design of your models should do it for a serious living? From the colors to the size to the styles of the furniture, pictures, even down to the towels and bedding, Great taste! I love the layout of the furniture and I surely can see myself and my stuff (or buy the furniture that is already in there) living real cozy at “The Retreat at Farmington.” Your leasing agent Tamika was very friendly, kind and answered all my questions. I also noticed that the landscaping was nicely done. And the pool area is also nice and clean, a great place to get some sun. Which I appreciate a clean-living area. When we returned to the office a young lady greeted me named Heather, which I found out after our conversation that Heather is the Manager. Seriously, what manager anywhere comes out of their office to greet you, I’m just saying ??. Thank you Heather. Heather was so sweet, she asked how the tour went and how I liked the apartment, she was also very friendly and kind. I would definitely recommend “The Retreat at Farmington” as a very nice place to live and lay your head down….. Thank you everyone at The Retreat at Farmington. T.

Worst apartment ever! Turn heads at safety! I am 6 months in and have been through hell! They are not organized at all. Building 14 residents cant even get out of the apartment Safely. Sidewalks are cracked so badly that residents have fallen and from the entrance, is all ice or mud all season long which residents have slipped and fallen in also. The residents have called management about how unsafe it is and inconvenienced we are that we cant leave our building safely. With winter approaching soon we don't know how we will get in or out of our homes and they said problem most likely wont be fixed and they understand that its a liability. They never answer the phones while in office and leave early. Not reliable or reachable in an emergency situation. They are so unorganized that they cant keep up with their referral program of $300 per referral. They lose track of who or when you referred and send eviction notices to people who participated. The kitchen is great but walls are super thin. I can hear coversations above and next to me. If one person smokes in the building the smoke fills the room of the apartment below and will make you choke.

Tameka was very professional very friendly. The property looked wonderful, the renovations were great. And the environment seems peaceful. I’m looking forward to moving in .

The leasing agent was very polite and patient answering all my questions. The apartments shown were as the models and pictures on here! Newly renovated, nice and clean, spacious. Happy about the large in unit washers and dryers!

Beautiful amenities, attentive staff, both office and maintenance. I have enjoyed my residency here over the past five years. Recenctly relocated into one of the newers units for my other unit in the other building. They are renovating everything ... Really nice..

I have watched the evolution at the Retreat for the past several years and the office and maintenance staff are wonderful. Any concerns are promptly attended to. I relocated from one of the older units in the complex to the revitalized unit I am in now and it is awesome. New Appliances, Washer, Dryer, cabinets, floors, etc. Like moving into something brand new and shiny. It is importqnt to have a supportive office and maintenance staff, all very nice, professional and attentive. I like this complex a lot and hope to live to enjoy it for many years!

I recently went to visit these apartments for the first time, hoping to find a new place to call home for more than a year this time! I met the 2 greatest people to tour the complex with and they convinced me to move in here and make it a place to call home for more than a year. I am so excited to see this complex finish renovations and see how beautiful of a home they can make it!

I recently moved into a renovated two bedroom apartment and the interior is so nice. The office staff has been so friendly and helpful during our move in, and the maintenance staff have completed all of our requests in less than 24 hours. The neighborhood has been peaceful and everyone we've met so far has been very nice. Overall, a great place to live!

I toured a unit today and was very impressed with the quality of renovations. The kitchen has nice quartz countertops and soft close cabinets. I loved the convenience of having a washer and dryer right in the unit. Can't wait to move in!

So I took a tour and I am so excited. The place is newly renovated. Kitchen has new stainless steel appliances, new cupboards, & counter tops. Everything is so modern and the clubhouse has a great fitness center. So happy to be moving in soon.

I just had the best experience here. The leasing staff was very helpful. The apartments are newly remodeled and very nice. This is my first time moving into an apartment and they made everything very easy for me as a first time renter.

I am definitely impressed with the apartments that I’ve seen here! Very clean updated look with brand new appliances and very spacious floor plan! The wood floors throughout is definitely a great place that I’m excited to call home!

Guys this place is definitely worth a look. We have a big German shepherd which makes renting usually very difficult. This place welcomed us with open arms on a Sunday no less. There’s a huge dog park and BEAUTIFUL interior. The apartments look like they’d be budget breaking, but they’re super reasonable. They also waived our app fee!!

I really like the complex. The 2 bedroom apartment is gorgeous with beautiful finishes, nice sized rooms, full-size washer and dryer! Beautiful area and close to the freeway

Retreat At Farmington Hills has done a massive transition from what the commuity used to be. Stainless Steel appliances, full size washer-dryer, plank wood flooring and gray two-tone paint. You'll truly be amazed. We are looking forward to moving in next month!

Current resident at the Retreat and I am loving the newly renovated apartment. All new everthing and full size washer and d dryer. The staff is friendly and professional and maintenance is prompt. I love it ! Safe and friendly location! Come see!!!

My wife and I submitted our application and they didn’t approve us. We asked the screening company for a copy of the report and everything looked fine, even another community used the same screening company and they approved us... and in Northville! Of course they won’t return our money. We sent an email asking for an explanation and they never replied, we called and they said they’d return our call and nothing. Grace and Erica will hide to avoid explaining what happened. 0 ethics and 0 professionalism. What a shame for such a nice apartments. When we were applying several people came in with different administrative issues, get ready.

The retreat at Farmington Hills is by far the best place to live! The community is great and the staff in the leasing office is terrific! Including Grace! She is AWESOME! Very professional and helpful! Any questions and or concerns we had Grace was quick to help and did it all with a smile! The community is very clean and well kept and my neighbors are wonderful!
