Known as San Diego’s second downtown, University City is one of San Diego’s best places to live. Named for housing the University of California East Campus, University City is also known for being home to multiple medical facilities and technology companies. University City also has excellent public schools. Westfield UTC, a sprawling upscale mall in the center of the neighborhood, provides residents with upscale retailers, trendy restaurants, a year-round skating rink, and more. Renting in University City places you minutes away from the amazing outdoor opportunities SoCal is known for. Go hiking at the Rose Canyon Open Space Park or travel miles a few miles west and spend some time in the water at the La Jolla Cove. For even more shopping, dining, and entertainment options, Downtown San Diego is about 20 minutes south. Rentals in this charming, laid-back locale are mid-range to upscale and include everything from Mediterranean-style single-family homes to luxury student housing.

Property Ratings at Regents Court
Several stolen motorcycles from the "secure" parking garage. Cameras are somehow all "corrupted" afterwards. Avoid at all costs unless you like your property being stolen.

Be aware. I have leased here 6 months (Sept-Feb) and actually lived in the unit for 4. This is a list of things I found unacceptable for a place this expensive: - Throughout my stay, the gate code never changed (they said they change it monthly). That meant homeless people knowing it, sleeping or hanging out, almost all delivery guys enter and I find them at my doorstep. - Fire alarms drill is illogically lengthy and goes on during working hours, while working remotely, and has gone to 4 straight hours on and off. - Hot water stopped twice for over 6 hours, complete water shutdown happened once for 5 hours, within 4 months. - A neighbor disrupted my optic fiber internet and because the unit did not have cellular coverage (AT&T and Tmobile) I was not able to work on the site. Refused to allow me to work in the business center while the internet was scheduled to be fixed (4 total days until the issue was resolved). No cooperation. - They did not consider travel ban when I was trying to come back to the US in the pandemic for my last month, and required a 60 days notice and I was forced to pay full March lease (an additional month not on the contract despite the fact that the issue was from border control). - Upon moving out I thoroughly cleaned my unit, pictures attached. 15 days later, I receive a statement for carpet cleaning ($75) which was used for only 4 months, another $145 for touch up paint throughout, patio deck, and exterior front door & frame. and then another $160 for cleaning my apartment, which I paid a cleaner $170 to do for me before leaving. Not referring nor advising anyone to stay here, I should have taken other reviews on the property management in consideration.

Two years at Regents Court is a nightmare. Four years in University City, I NEVER HATED ANY COMMUNITY LIKE THIS. I am glad I moved out and ended this madness. Although I loved my first two months here with the old leasing team led by Christian, everything went downhill rapidly after they started the renovation of the leasing office, changing multiple managers and a dozen employees. IT IS NOT A SAFE PLACE! Some stranger approached my two female suitemates in the garage while they were loading equipment off of their car. The stranger accosted and tailed them while they were carrying the cameras and walking back to our unit, they had to knock on our neighbor's door pretending it's our unit and call me to pick them up at the other side of the building and call the police. The stranger ran off from the stairway and exited to the street after hearing my roommate calling the police. We emailed the property management about this, and they claimed they would do a gate code change, which never happened. And this is not the only scary thing that happened here. You can get people going door-to-door trying to make you donate money late night or asking if you want to buy some candy??? THE NOISE LEVEL IS RIDICULOUS. I stayed in a unit close to the basketball court in Doyle Community Park for my first year here. Almost every day, people play basketball at 2 am, 6 am, 11 pm, and 12 pm. Teenagers and homeless are the frequent visitors to the park; the former blasts out music and parties through the night, the latter screams and harasses morning runners and attracts multiple police cars. There were sports events every night till 11 pm during summer and fall; movie nights in the field once a month. You can hear all that, and noise-canceling headphones are not useful. I suffered from severe anxiety and insomnia while living in that unit, which was not cheap. The management told me to deal with it myself. I send countless emails to the park manager, but no resolution.
Great experience living here. The staff was was really on it! and I absolutely loved the amenities this place offers!
Property Manager at Regents Court, Responded To This Review
Thank you so much for your review! We are happy that you enjoyed your time with us!
I never write reviews but I have to this time because you all deserve to know what happened to me to make informed decisions. I stayed here for one night to visit my friend. Guess what, if all four guest parking spaces and street parking are taken and you have no choice but to park inside their residential parking structure, your car will be towed within 24 hours. I had to pay $352 to get my car back. So basically, if you live here you probably want to think twice about accommodating guests. The people at leasing office were very unprofessional. When the question to them is "Don't you think you should make sure that your residents are aware of the choice of getting a visitor parking permit for their visitors?", their answer is a big careless "No." Getting visitor parking permit for is not written in the contract either. So they don't care about making your living experience easy. You have to go out and ask them and fight for it, and you don't get what you need. By the way the gate of the parking structure is very narrow. You have to be extremely slow and careful when you enter so that you don't scratch your car to the iron gate. Rate is also higher than other apts in the same area. Make wise choices.
I've lived at Regents Court for 2 years and the one word with which I can describe this place is quality. Many of my friends live in other apartments/townhouses nearby and none can live up to the quality of Regents Court. The complex is very clean and the amenities are always in good shape. This complex likes to upgrade communal areas/amenities which shows that they care for their residents; they just renovated the hallways and recently repainted. The leasing office associates are very nice and the maintenance team responds to service requests in a timely manner. This is the perfect place for UCSD students as the first shuttle stop is directly across the street. It's also walking distance to McDonald's, Costa Verde Center, and the Westfield UTC mall. Overall, it's a great place to live.
A large plus is that the entire building and parking garage is gated and secure. The parking garage also has 7 floors so there are plenty of spots, though most are compact spots. The design of the garage and complex take some time getting used to since they're hard to navigate. The complex is fairly quiet, incredibly so compared to nearby complexes. The bedrooms and walk in closets are very spacious, as well as the living areas. The kitchen could be bigger and the appliances are somewhat outdated. If the kitchen was upgraded, this complex would definitely be one of the best (especially for the price) in UTC. I would give 3.5 stars if allowed.
