Hastings sits at the center of south-central Nebraska as the county seat of Adams County, about 25 miles south of Grand Island and roughly 14 miles from Interstate 80. The city covers about 14 square miles and has a population of around 25,000, making it one of the larger cities in the state. Daily life here moves at a comfortable pace, with a walkable downtown area anchored by local shops and restaurants, parks scattered throughout the city, and Hastings College and Central Community College adding educational and cultural energy to the east side of town. Kool-Aid was invented here in 1927, and the city celebrates that claim to fame each August with the Kool-Aid Days festival.
