Hugging the Congaree River and stretching east, Columbia is a sprawling city with a history dating back to colonial times. Nicknamed the "Capital of Southern Hospitality," Columbia is a welcoming, warm city -- it is also a college town, home to the University of South Carolina. The university is located downtown, covering over 359 acres. The historic, top-ranking university dates back to 1801, but the oldest structure in Columbia is the Seibels House, built around 1796. It currently serves as a house museum.
While there's plenty for college students to do, Columbia provides a variety of activities -- whether you're a golfer, a shopper, or a foodie. Kid-friendly activities are everywhere, from the gorgeous parks to the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. The downtown district provides a variety of shops and restaurants along brick-paved sidewalks, and the river and nearby lakes provide opportunities for boating and fishing.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Preserve at Windsor Lake
New Management extremely disrespectful and disgruntled and Maintenance is lazy. Property is not cleaned. Trash is everywhere and gates for entrance are broke and bent out of shape. No longer safe or worth it
Beware new potential tenants if you need anything fixed or addressed. The answer has been "we have a very long list and can't get to it right now". I have had service requests in since Feb that have not been addressed
For a first time renter, and having moved to a completely new city fresh out of college, the Preserve at Windsor Lake was a fantastic place to live. It's honestly a hidden gem. Farris, Angela, and the rest of the front office staff were always extremely helpful, accommodating, and understanding. Communication between the office and residents was good, and maintenance was always prompt when requested, even on weekends. The pool was always well kept and refreshing to dip into after a long day at work or on a hot Columbia weekend. The Preserve is also very pet friendly. When it came time that I was moving out, they made the process very easy. I had a great time living there and will 100% recommend it to anyone looking for living quarters in the Columbia area. I will miss living there!
Property Manager at Preserve at Windsor Lake, Responded To This Review
Wow - thank you so much for this glowing review! My team and I greatly appreciate the kind words and we couldn't be happier to hear what a terrific first renting experience you had at with us. From all of us at The Preserve at Windsor Lake, we wish you the best moving forward and please let us know if you're ever back in the Columbia area! Take care. - Farris Griffin, Property Manager
I have never been so frustrated with an apartment complex...being military we move around a lot so we have lived in a few apartments. The "gated" community always has a gate broken so people come and go as they please. The pool has turned into a public pool and the filter is never on so you will try to relax in a dirty pool with hair floating by you and people that don't belong there yelling and swearing. I called and brough it to their attention and all they said was ill let the property manager know and nothing has been done. The dumpster area is absolutely embarrassing there is trash and furniture all over the outside of the area and not kept up what so ever- I seriously hope they get their act together because I've never been so disgusted with a place in my life.
This place is a safe and gated community and I love it. I know when I come home from work late or early in the mornings that I know I'm safe and can rest easily. And when my 6 months son come to visit me he's safe too.
The Apartment itself is great, staff: also great, however, I have intimately become acquainted with Roaches/Palmetto Beetles sneaking into my bathrooms and kitchen. Apparently they come from the cabinet cracks and drains. I hate that I cannot enter into my own bathroom without doing a visual sweep for quarter sized dark spots with two inch antennas. If you can deal with having Raid on hand and cleaning up afterwards, you'll love this place. But for a thousand a month, I think pest control should be a little better. Also, the parking is similar to Walmart's. I will not move back here if I ever return to Columbia and frankly, I am looking forward to leaving.
The apartment complex as a whole is kept clean and neat. There are a lot of military and law enforcement families who stay here. The staff is nice and friendly. The only thing I have an issue with is the rent amount. I don't think the price matches the apartment or its amenities.
