I’ve been a resident here for a couple of years now, and I feel that the quality has fallen down a bit since the new manager took over. Since then, I’ve had several packages stolen from the reception area(the people dropping the packages off don’t put them in the lockers), the many of the facilities have been breaking down or don’t work properly(elevators, washing machines, etc), and maintenance requests seem to be ignored. I think that some of the areas such as the stairway and the basement floor look a bit rough and could use a bit of touching up/a fresh coat of paint. Communication has also become very subpar, the most recent example being never getting a call back even through I was promised one for a recent request I put in with maintenance. The only real advantage of this location is the relatively cheap rent and its proximity to the University for work. While not a bad place to live, I would be reluctant to recommend this place unless you’re a student and/or work at the hospital, and even then I think there are better options.

Plaisance is a great place to live. They the genuinely care to do better for their residents. It's been an overall positive experience to live here.

It's a great neighborhood especially for the students. The university security patrols constantly not far from stores and accessible to public transportation.
The apartment is very clean, the facilities are perfect, the location is convenient, and the housing service is very good.

I have lived here for 21 yrs and I love it here. We pretty much look out for each other, the management staff is great they keep us up on everything that going on in the building and what to watch out for in the neighborhood. You are close around the stores/bus stops/hospital/university and the fabulous lake front.

I'm a student in the University of Chicago, so Plaisance Apartments is located strategically for me. The distance from this apartment to my campus is very close and it's very convenience to me. The manager building and staffs are very kind and friendly, they will help you immediately if you face any trouble in the apartment.

I have been living in here for 20 years the management and maintenance are awesome, any issues or concerns you have they take care of it for you right away. Your neighbors always look out for you/accessibility to stores/bus stop/hospital and even the lake front is in walking distance. Most important good security and police appearance is always around.

The location, ammendities (like the gym), space and price (with utilities) is great, surely great value. The building unfortunately is old and needs lots of maintenance. Maintenance service is great for emergency 24/7, but for non-urgent services it is not always fully completed. Also, the laundry machines do not work well...

Plaisance Apartments is a wonderful place to live!
The apartment is very well located near the University of Chicago with convenient prices. However, the customer service is terrible. After causing me damage the first week of rent, by starting works in the unit AFTER I had moved in (with toxic fumes from the painted radiators, and no usable shower, despite the unit being empty for 2 months), no compensation was offered. Instead I was even threatened to not have my admin fee back that I initially paid twice. You have to hope that everything will goes well in your move-in, otherwise you will be seen more like an ATM machine than a human by management.

As a new arrival at Plaisance, I must say Vicky (lady in the leasing office on-site) is extremely helpful and warm-spirited. From the first time visiting she made this place feel like a home/community, you feel welcome to. I've only been here for a month so far but I have yet to feel unsafe or as if the building isn't secure. Its location is perfect and my partner and I go biking often to the lake nearby and get back late. Yet, we haven't had any issues. I love our views. The only downside is the service elevator being out and us not knowing that until right before move-in day to the top floor. This can make moving in and out with big furniture a struggle. You're better off buying new things that come in a box. Other than that my partner and I love it.
I really appreciate the staff at Plaisance. Every time I had a maintenance request, they have responded quickly and in a friendly manner.

It is a really cozy place to live. The maintenance was always responsive and was able to fix the problems within 24 hours. The property manager, Sheik, is really helpful. He takes his job seriously and has been great at answering all my questions and concerns promptly. With his help, my move-out process went smoothly and I appreciated all the help he provided during that process.
The maintenance person was very friendly and efficient.

I have been living here for years it's close to th3 bus stops/hospital/stores and if you don't have a car everything is in walking distance. The manager is great and refreshing making good changes to the building and maintenance comes in do the work and get it done, they also follows all ppe procedures. I can't wait to see what they do for the building during Christmas season.

Generally disapointed and dissatisfied. Unless this is the cheapest you could find and you are on a tight budget, avoid it. Otherwise, scrutinize and inspect everything before signing anything.
An amazing place that is literally in the center of a peaceful neighborhood
Plaisance offers reasonably priced rent in an upcoming area. Apartments are more updated than most apartments in the area for a similar or cheaper price. In-building gym and laundry are major assets. However, more emphasis should be placed on preventative maintenance
Pros: Very quiet building and respectful neighbors. Manager is very responsive with inquiries. In a good location / safe neighborhood. Very well kept exterior with a landscaping company coming often to take care of the plants/bushes/grass out front. Lobby is clean and so is the gym. Cons: this building needs A MAJOR UPGRADE. The lobby is nice but once you pass the lobby the years of this place are apparent. Somewhat looks like a creepy hotel. Ugly worn down carpeting throughout hallways and green painting could definitely be updated (maybe a nice neutral color with a new carpet to match? ) The elevators also need to be updated as the 2 that are here are old freight elevators which could fall apart at any moment. The basement well it’s a basement we don’t expect much but it would be nice if the stairs and hallway leading up to the back alley where we need to throw away trash could not look like a horror movie scene.
The Building manager was more than helpful when I had a request and the move in-move out process went as good as I could have hoped for. As a student, I was happy overall with the experience for 2 years span I was there.

I was shocked to see that this building has a pet policy that excludes all Doberman (including mixed breeds). Doberman do not have a reputation as vicious or dangerous dogs. Statistically, Rotts, Cane Corsos, Chows and German Shepherds are all far more dangerous than the mild natured Dobbie. Yet, none of these powerful breeds are excluded as a matter of course. Shame on your management for such an ignorant and lazy dog policy.
It's really quiet and cozy. Well kept as well. Everything is conveniently close and they don good job at taking care of the building. I really love it.
