East Haven isn’t even five miles outside Downtown New Haven, yet it provides a distinctly different Connecticut experience. This tranquil suburb has become a popular bedroom community for those who work in New Haven or one of the surrounding big cities like New York. East Haven is ripe with suburban conveniences and a friendly feel just minutes from historic destinations.
Parks, forests, and recreation areas like Lake Saltonstall give the area an almost wooded feel, a welcome contrast from the dense grid of the nearby city. Charming homes and apartments peek out from lush landscaping and gentle hills, and locals gather at The Centre. Local restaurants and businesses provide some entertainment, and you can also take a glimpse into East Haven’s past at places like the Shore Line Trolley Museum.
With Yale so close, East Haven is an affordable option for students and academics. I-91 and I-95 run right through town, opening you up to explore the rest of New England.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Parkwood Apartments
This was a great complex to live in. About a year ago the management changed. It's still owned by the same family, but a different family member is the acting manager and we've noticed that living here has been bad ever since. Rent has been steadily increasing. There are fewer maintenance workers so it takes longer for them to respond. Recently the laundry rooms were consolidated to only one building which seems unfair after they went up in rent this year and now I have to pay more to be inconvenienced. Looking to move out soon and very happy to go.
