History

The inspiration for Parkview Hills came when businessman Burton H. Upjohn and ecologist Dr. H. Lewis Batts, Jr. partnered up to create a natural community that would serve all of its residents' unique needs. They purchased 288 acres of rolling forest, farmland, streams and lakes, planning streets and native tree growths throughout the neighborhood. The ground was broken in 1970, and the partners remained involved in the community's growth for many years.

For a taste of local culture, check out the museums in downtown Kalamazoo. The neighborhood also hosts Art Minders, a committee that encourages local artists to display their work at the neighborhood's Willow Lake Gallery during bazaars and festivals. Don't miss special community events like the Needle Guild every Tuesday morning at the clubhouse.

Transportation

Despite its natural location, Parkview Hills keeps you well-connected to the rest of the city as it lies just off Interstate 94 Business with easy access to Interstate 94. Enjoy free parking throughout the neighborhood and in the surrounding areas. If you need a ride to the airport, ditch the car and call Uber or Kalamazoo Taxi.

Hop on a bus from Kalamazoo Transit for an easy commute into downtown Kalamazoo. If you prefer to bike during the warmer months, keep in mind that this neighborhood has no bike lanes. However, the strict speed limits and small residential streets make for a safe ride. Parkview Hills also creates a beautiful environment for a casual walk, but you need to drive to reach most amenities.

Head to Kazoo Books to explore a vast collection of new and gently used books sorted into genres. In-store cats greet you as you walk in, and the employees love to help you find just the book for your taste. Trade in your old books to get credit toward all books in the store. When you find a promising read, feel free to cozy up next to the fireplace to flip through the pages.
