The town of Parachute is named after Parachute Creek, which flows through town and empties into the better-recognized Colorado River. Legend says that a land surveyor in 1879 noted that the river patterns of Roan Plateau resembled lines of a parachute, giving this northwest town its name. Activities include fishing, rafting, and horseback riding. Not far from the modest restaurants and I-70 is a golf course.
