A region bursting at the seems with growth on the edge of the Phoenix Metropolitin Area, Outer Chandler/Gilbert makes the perfect location for those seeking access to big city action while residing peacefully tucked away in a modern, up-scale community.

Bound by the 202-Red Mountain Freeway to the north and the San Tan Mountain Regional Park to the southeast, this area provides an aesthetically pleasing blend of city life, agriculture and nature. You’ll find a community filled a wide array of residents with even more varied interests. Adrenaline junkies have access to breathtaking landscapes for hiking and biking, farmers tend their crops and those who prefer modernity at a slower speed can relax in the confines of quiet suburbia.

Large local industries fuel opportunities for go-getters to achieve close to home, while the slow-paced suburban lifestyle proves optimal for raising families. This ideal blend of “fast or slow at your preference” proves a major reason for the area's rapid population growth.

Once upon a time, Chandler was a rural community consisting of farmland and a handful of restaurants. Today, that's all changed. An influx of new residents brought with them fantastic restaurants and bars -- although the hole-in-the-wall restaurants are still around, many considered hidden gems by residents.

Sink your teeth into some sashimi at Mikado Sushi. If you seek some spice in your life, try the more adventurous STST Roll, a delectable blend of shrimp tempura and spicy tuna topped with a mouth-kicking (and eye-watering) wasabi sauce.

Cyrus Grill brings the flavors of Greece to Arizona -- with a side of tzatziki sauce. Be sure to try traditional favorites like spanakopita, calamari, dolmades, souvlaki, and gyros. And, of course, top it all off with a crunchy-sweet piece of baklava.

Abundant nightlife options exist in the area, allowing you to party hard at clubs in Old Town Scottsdale or drink micro-brews in a more hipster-centric atmosphere in downtown Phoenix, with both cities situated less than 30 minutes away. Locally, make yourself at home in the Living Room Wine Cafe and Lounge, where a blend of casual and trendy patrons converge in a hip and modern environment with wines and fine eats. Thursday through Saturday, the DJ keeps the pulse grooving, while Sunday features live music.

Outer Chandler/Gilbert has a rich history with deep roots in agriculture. Since the early 1990s, a massive spike in migration to the area has been a dominant trend. High-tech companies like Intel, Mircrochip and Motorola have made the region a key cog in Arizona’s efforts to be considered the "Silicon Desert," and those companies keep bringing talent, revenue and a burgeoning modern city with them.

The Ostrich Festival reigns as one of the largest in the Valley of the Sun. Hearkening back to the days when local ostrich farms supplied the popular (and expensive) plumes in fashionable women’s hats, the Ostrich Festival draws nearly 350,000 annually through its gates.

You might see new housing or business developments dominating the landscape, but the farming and ranching heritage still plays a prominent role throughout the region. Active irrigation canals cross the neighborhood as a vivid reminder of the town’s roots.

Bus routes extend through certain parts of the neighborhood, but personal vehicles comprise the undeniable transportation choice for most residents. I-10 and the 202 are wide, modern freeways that carve out the western and northern boundaries of this neighborhood respectively. The more rural Hunt Highway delineates the southern border with the Gila River Indian Reservation.

The Chandler Municipal Airport (CHD) acts as a superb business alternative 18 miles southeast of massive Phoenix Sky Harbor. Small, efficient and located near the technology hub of Chandler for quick access to many big business in the area, this airport also serves as a great base for sightseeing the picturesque Sonoran Desert.

Large modern shopping complexes and businesses designed for a large capacity of vehicles render parking issues a non-factor. New roads throughout the area have designated bike lanes that can be used as a viable transportation option, though you'll find the long open roads are often used by cyclists for leisure.

Your money goes further on the edge of this metropolis. You’ll find more affordable accommodations compared to comparable conditions in the heart of Scottsdale or Phoenix. Typical rent sets you back around $800 a month, about $200 cheaper than the greater Phoenix Metro Area.

An all-day bus pass runs $4, though if you only need to go one-way, then a $2 fare does the trick. Gas prices clock in at around 15 percent cheaper than the national average, while knocking back an imported brew at the local watering hole costs around $5.

Venturing north into the hearts of Chandler and Gilbert you’ll find every shopping option you could want. The second largest mall in the Phoenix Metro Area, the Chandler Fashion Center houses department store staples like Nordstrom and electronic kingpin Best Buy. Cross over into Downtown Chandler for some boutique shopping at Sibley’s West to bring a taste of Arizona into your home. While you explore downtown, check out Saba’s Western Wear to kick up some dust in a new pair of cowboy boots.

For beauty supplies in the neighborhood head over to Makeup and More by Jackie in the Gilbert Town Square. This locally owned beauty store has all of your skin care, bath and makeup needs covered. Stay in the mall and go to Wedding Belles Bridal Boutique to find the perfect wedding dress for your big day. The Gilbert Town Square also has a movie theater and plenty of food options if you decide to spend the entire day at the mall.

Locals shop for groceries at Albertson's, Food City, Fry's Food and Safeway. In Gilbert, you can also prepare to host the big game by restocking your fridge and freezer (and alcohol cabinet) at Costco or Walmart, and then go outside and jog off those calories in your new kicks from DSW.

The Snedigar Sports Complex embodies the active lifestyle of the community. It features 90 acres of amenities framed by Basha Road to the east and Ocotillo Road to the north. Walk your dog in the designated dog park, or kickflip at the 35,000-square-foot skate park, which draws the best skateboarders in the world. Looking to learn a new sport? The full-size cricket field adds cultural flair to the vast greenery.

Chandler and Gilbert have incorporated drainage retention basins into their subdivisions to act as both a means to store a monsoon deluge and to provide green open spaces for communities to play, congregate and relax.

You won't find desolation in Tumbleweed Park like the name would suggest. The Annual Ostrich Festival brings carnival rides and attractions to the area, and the great weather means you can play tennis on one of the 15 courts year-round. Bond with the whole family at Playtopia, a 2.5-acre playground and picnic area. Water fountains throughout ensure maximum hydration, but make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen on those sunny desert days.
