Santa Fe College, perhaps, is not where you think it is -- just a few minutes northwest of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Although often overshadowed by its much-larger neighbor, Santa Fe College offers a smaller, more individualized college experience. This state college was established in 1966 as Santa Fe Community College. It dropped the "Community" part of its name when it began offering bachelor's degree programs in 2008. Santa Fe College is home to the nation's only zookeeper training facility, located on 10 acres and home to more than 200 animals. The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo is located on the west side of campus and was established in 1970. The program includes medical care, conservation, animal husbandry, breeding, and nutrition.
