Medicine Lake is settled in northern Minnesota and offers the feeling of living in a holiday getaway, and yet this town is just minutes from Downtown Minneapolis. Residents enjoy the benefits of small-town living and a natural outdoor setting while taking advantage of the thriving big-city environment that surrounds them. The motto “Where water meets sky” is a literal description of Medicine Lake’s location on a peninsula jutting into a lake of the same name and aptly conveys the population’s appreciation for the great outdoors. The town may be small, but the close-knit community likes it that way. Many residents head to the Downtown Plymouth nearby for diverse dining and entertainment. Medicine Lake appeals to folks looking for a peaceful, safe neighborhood. Outdoor lovers will appreciate the enveloping wildlife, and outgoing individuals will enjoy the friendly, interactive locals.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Medicine Lake Apartments
To start with, there was an infestation of boxelder and stink bugs that lasted all winter and by infestation I mean about 5-10 new ones every single day. My upstairs neighbors make so much noise I literally could not sleep at night, I heard every footstep they made late at night and early in the morning. Listening to the dog run around the apartment above as I tried to sleep was infuriating. The complex is pretty run down, although they are beginning some renovations and putting in a package room because of all the break-ins they have had. The neighborhood simply isn’t safe, I had a bike lock sawed through and had stuff stolen. And that was inside the garage! I don’t feel safe in this apartment complex and when not only I, but other residents have asked for security cameras or any other security measures, we have been told they “don’t help.” They also haven’t changed the building locks in 10+ years because they are too cheap. Not sure too much about the new property manager, but the previous property and assistant property manager were incompetent and/or unprofessional. When I initially applied for a lease there was a holiday special, $1000 off of rent. I had seen it online and the assistant property manager also mentioned it when I came to tour. As I was applying later that day she called me and told me that she had accidentally told the property manager no one was interested in the apartment the day before and that he could go ahead and void the special. So because of the mistake of an employee, I the customer lost out and they refused to keep their employees word which is just horrible customer service. Later on when I brought it up again they pretended they had never even had a special in the first place. The nicest part of the complex was having access to the lake, although if you don’t have a boat you’ll be swimming through a ton of green muck before you get anywhere. The dock was also pretty much falling apart. There was a plank missing for about a month and a half before they finally fixed it, also nails sticking up in a couple places, missing rubber siding and broken cleats all over. They do have some renovations planned for it but I’m not sure how extensive that will be or if it will fix all of the issues.

Hi Andrew - We understand you have been in contact with management to discuss a resolution. If there are additional items that you would like to discuss, please reach out to us at (763) 546-5052 when you can so we can address this situation directly. Thank you and have a great day.
If you enjoy your peace and quiet do not rent here. You can hear every little footstep above your head as if they were walking 10 inches above you on Styrofoam. You can hear people coming all the way down the hallways while in your own living room. It's an older place so toilets and things like that look discolored and nasty. Dogs bark for hours on end. It's right by a train track, and I mean literally 10 feet from the parking lot, but the train came only once a day so that was tolerable. Being by the lake you get all kinds of disgusting pests coming around. Management is all right, they try to be accommodating and generally leave you alone. Nice little workout room with a sauna, kinda crappy tennis court/basketball court with fake flooring that feels like you'll snap your knee. Nice pool, and the Lake itself is great including the private dock. Overall not worth the price they charge at all, the footsteps and paper thin walls will drive you insane; I've never lived in an apartment with such thin ceilings and walls, better off finding yourself a cheaper place with concrete walls. Oh did I mention you can HEAR EVERY FOOTSTEP above or around you?!!!! But you if don't mind the FOOTSTEPS and NOISE and want to legitimately enjoy the pretty dope bass lake, it's your call.

The upside of Medicine Lake Apts is the setting --- walking/ biking trail next to the complex, view of Medicine Lake and lots foliage/trees. I pay $1235/month for a two bedroom and while the square footage is decent with a nice storage closet near the front door, the rent seems high to me considering the maintenance issues I've had. Sometimes they are addressed promptly but too often they are addressed half way or ignored. I don't believe I am all that fussy of a tenant about maintenance as I've lived other places with little need for it. Also, for $1235/month I expect some updating -- both of my toilets are old, stained (cannot remove stains) and need replaced. Also, the faucets hardware needs replacing. I have a tiny shower in my bedroom bathroom which is quite cheap -- like something you'd install in a seasonal cabin. The floors above my 1st floor unit are very loud when the neighbors are walking around -- by far the loudest of any apartment I have lived in, including a home built in 1909 that I owned. Windows in my unit work poorly and are drafty. The apartment was not well cleaned when I moved in -- not awful, but I expect better. The water tastes terrible here so I recommend using a filtered water pitcher. You get an underground garage spot and I was shown the garage when I toured the complex, yet after I moved in I was told I would be on a waiting list for a spot --- I was not informed of this before signing the lease. All this said, the building tenants are quiet and even the dogs allowed here have not bothered me. Although I do not have a direct neighbor with a dog. One thing I really like about my unit is the kitchen -- reasonable spacious, unlike the galley kitchens in so many apts. I believe some of the 1 bdrms have galley kitchens. Even with the negatives mentioned, I think it could be challenging to find anything markedly better for the same money here in Plymouth. Oh, and my rent increase after one year was $65/month. Irritating, but not uncommon.
