The historic community of Downtown Lowell first began in 1826, when it was settled and became a hub for textile mills and factories during the Industrial Revolution. Today, you can witness its history at the Lowell National Historic Park on Kirk Street, down the road from the interactive exhibits at the Tsongas Industrial History Center.
Many of Downtown Lowell’s former mill factories are now home to modern office spaces, apartments, boutiques, and restaurants. Downtown’s Middle Street is a quiet, brick-paved roadway featuring numerous places to dine. The Old Court Irish Pub is an excellent spot for a pint and traditional Irish cuisine.
The Merrimack River, Boarding House Park, and the Eastern Canal are all in walking distance of Downtown Lowell apartments. The neighborhood is home to Middlesex Community College and the University of Massachusetts’s athletic and research facilities. This area is thriving with museums, art studios, and nightlife at the Blue Shamrock.

Property Ratings at Massachusetts Mills
Living downtown Lowell definitely has its downsides, but Mass Mills has been great. My apartment is huge, it overlooks the river and is so convenient to everything downtown. If you don’t like the noise and stuff that goes on, maybe move to a quieter area but don’t blame the apartment complex. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for that downtown lifestyle.
Property Manager at Massachusetts Mills, Responded To This Review
Hi User, we're thrilled to hear that you're enjoying the convenience and location of your home at Mass Mills. It's great to know that you're loving the downtown lifestyle. Thanks for recommending us, we appreciate it!
Make sure to buy your own AC unit, electric heater, and earplugs before moving in. You won't have heat in the summer, the AC will stop working randomly, and you'll hear dogs barking and children screaming all day. Also, be prepared to lose hot water periodically. Mail will get lost, elevators will break, and it seems there hasn't been any updates to the utilities since the 80's when it opened.
Terrible staff and maintenance crew; they take FOREVER. Very rude people. Horrible parking and the building/apartments I’ve seen inside are old and falling apart. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT COME HERE. You’ll thank me later lol
This is a perfect place if you are a student because most of the colleges in Lowell are within 5 mins walking distance from here. The place is also in downtown Lowell which means easy access to all essential amenities and restaurants or bars. they have a small gym facility within the office building and a pool too. There are two block building with 4 floors and over 500 different apartments in total. If you hate a lot of neighbors this is not the place for you. The noise doesn't make it easy sometimes too because it's right in downtown Lowell and it's very busy.
