Deer Park, WA

Deer Park is a very small city about twenty miles north of Spokane. The community is surrounded by the stunning wild landscape of eastern Washington, and outdoorsy types will appreciate the close proximity to Colville National Forest (the region is a popular area for moose and deer hunting as well). The city itself is an idyllic small town, enjoying a low crime rate and a generally relaxed pace. However, the community maintains a very active calendar of events, including the Deer Park Fly-In at the airport, Winterfest every January, a summer concert series, and the Settler’s Day celebration over 4th of July weekend.

Live away from it all in the idyllic area of Colbert-Chatteroy. Several city parks let you get some sunshine in Deer Park proper, but Mount Spokane State Park remains the place locals drive to when they want to breathe in the fresh mountain air. See the surrounding countryside, Idaho, and Canada from atop this 6,000-foot mountain. This place becomes a winter wonderland in colder months as the mountain typically receives 300 inches of snow every season. Take your compass and a backpack full of supplies if you plan to walk any portion of the 100 miles of trails here.
