Home to UCLA, Westwood lies on the west side of the city and is considered to be one of Los Angeles’ premier neighborhoods. Bordered by Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, and Century City, multimillion dollar homes populate the landscape and students pay a premium to rent near campus.
The university itself serves as a major cultural center for the community, including on-campus attractions (such as the Fowler Museum and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden) and university-affiliated venues off-campus (The Hammer Museum, the Geffen Playhouse), as well as the presence of thousands of students and faculty members throughout the neighborhood.
Directly south of campus, Westwood Village is a historic shopping district that features blocks of restaurants and businesses catering to both students and the neighborhood’s larger workforce. Many prominent corporations and law offices are found along Wilshire Boulevard, one of the busiest east-west transit corridors across the city.
With direct access to the 405 Freeway, residents of Westwood live only 6 miles east of Santa Monica Beach and 12 miles west of Downtown LA, making it easy to take advantage of the best that Los Angeles has to offer.
As of July 2025, the average apartment rent in Westwood is $2,063 for a studio, $2,902 for one bedroom, $4,034 for two bedrooms, and $6,154 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Westwood has increased by 1.6% in the past year.

We chose this neighborhood for the safety, the elementary school, and its proximity to everything including freeways.

Great area next to University of California, Los Angeles. Weather is always nice. It is perfect place to live with young spirits although sometimes it's a bit crowded at night.

Great college campus and great nearby shops. However, very expensive living situation in California so beware of apartments.

I lived in westwood for 4 years while i was a student at UCLA. I can say that rent is very high, especially for a student, as is the overall cost of living. For apartments specifically you really are note getting what you pay for. There are benefits to living in an expensive area like access to retail, parks, transportation, and general safety. That is not to say the whole area of westwood is safe - the areas concentrated with students can get rowdy and not safe for children or even women.
