Historic Walkable Shops Nightlife Parks

Things are happening in Austin’s west side. This large neighborhood starts along the Colorado River and extends to the University of Texas-Austin campus. It includes several smaller neighborhoods, including historic Old West Austin, Bryker Woods, Tarrytown, Westfield, and Clarksville. On the west side, you’ll find tree-lined streets, waterfront restaurants, lakes, and Lions Municipal Golf Course.

Established in 1853, West Austin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Deep Eddy Pool, located in Eilers Park, dates back to 1916. This park also offers a walking trail and a community garden. Other neighborhood landmarks include the Pease Mansion, Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Garden, and the Stone Windmill.

West Austin contains some of the city’s favorite restaurants, such as the Magnolia Café, Mozart’s Coffee Roasters, and Hula Hut. In addition to several parks, West Austin provides marinas, access to the Red Bud Isle dog park, and top-rated schools. Shops are located throughout the neighborhood, with West 35th Street and Guadalupe Avenue (often called the Drag) providing a diverse collection of boutiques and specialty stores.
